¹¹ “I baptize you with^[a] water for repentance,^[b](A) but the One who is coming after me is more powerful than I. I am not worthy to remove^[c] His sandals. He Himself will baptize you with^[d] the Holy Spirit and fire.^(B)

⁷ He was preaching: “Someone more powerful^(A) than I will come after me.^(B) I am not worthy^(C) to stoop down and untie the strap of His sandals.^(D)

¹⁶ John answered them all,^(A) “I baptize you with^[a] water, but One is coming who is more powerful than I. I am not worthy to untie the strap of His sandals. He will baptize you with^[b] the Holy Spirit and fire.

²⁰ He did not refuse to answer, but he declared: “I am not the Messiah.”^(A)

²⁷ He is the One coming after me,^[a](A) whose sandal strap I’m not worthy to untie.”

²⁴ But I count my life of no value to myself, so that I may finish my course^[a] and the ministry^(A) I received from the Lord Jesus,^(B) to testify to the gospel of God’s grace.
