The First Disciples

¹⁸ As^(A) He was walking along the Sea of Galilee,^(B) He saw two brothers, Simon, who was called Peter, and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the sea, since they were fishermen.

²¹ Going on from there, He saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee, and his brother John. They were in a boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets, and He called them.

¹⁸ And I also say to you that you are Peter,^[a] and on this rock^[b] I will build My church,^(A) and the forces^[c] of Hades will not overpower it.

⁴² and he brought Simon to Jesus.

When Jesus saw him, He said, “You are Simon, son of John.^[a] You will be called Cephas”^(A) (which means “Rock”).
