Lay Up Treasures in Heaven

^19 (A)“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where ^(B)moth and rust^[a] destroy and where thieves ^(C)break in and steal,

²¹ Jesus said to him, “If you would be ^(A)perfect, go, ^(B)sell what you possess and give to the poor, and you will have ^(C)treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.”

²¹ So is the one ^(A)who lays up treasure for himself and is not rich towards God.”

^33 (A)Sell your possessions, and ^(B)give to the needy. ^(C)Provide yourselves with money bags that do not grow old, with ^(D)a treasure in the heavens that does not fail, where no thief approaches and no moth destroys. ^34 (E)For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

²² When Jesus heard this, he said to him, “One thing you still lack. ^(A)Sell all that you have and distribute to the poor, and you will have ^(B)treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.”

⁹ But ^(A)those who desire to be rich fall into temptation, ^(B)into a snare, into many senseless and harmful desires that ^(C)plunge people into ruin and destruction. ¹⁰ For the love of money is a root of ^(D)all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs.

¹⁷ As for the rich in ^(A)this present age, charge them ^(B)not to be haughty, nor ^(C)to set their hopes on ^(D)the uncertainty of riches, but on God, ^(E)who richly provides us with everything to enjoy. ¹⁸ They are to do good, ^(F)to be rich in good works, to be generous and ^(G)ready to share, ¹⁹ thus ^(H)storing up treasure for themselves as a good foundation for the future, so that they may ^(I)take hold of ^(J)that which is truly life.

⁵ Keep your life ^(A)free from love of money, and ^(B)be content with what you have, for he has said, ^(C)“I will never leave you nor forsake you.”
