I Never Knew You

21 (A)“Not everyone who (B)says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will (C)enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who (D)does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 (E)On that day (F)many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not (G)prophesy in your name, and cast out demons (H)in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ 23 (I)And then will I declare to them, ‘I (J)never knew you; (K)depart from me, (L)you workers of lawlessness.’

Build Your House on the Rock

24 (M)“Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like (N)a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. 26 And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like (O)a foolish man who built his house on the sand. 27 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.”

The Authority of Jesus

28 And when Jesus finished these sayings, (P)the crowds were astonished at his teaching, 29 (Q)for he was teaching them as one who had authority, and not as their scribes.

26 Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, (A)you are seeking me, not because you saw (B)signs, but because you ate your fill of the loaves. 27 (C)Do not work for the food that perishes, but for (D)the food that endures to eternal life, which (E)the Son of Man will give to you. For on (F)him God the Father has (G)set his seal.” 28 Then they said to him, “What must we do, to be doing (H)the works of God?” 29 Jesus answered them, “This is the work of God, (I)that you believe in him whom (J)he has sent.”

15 For I have given you an example, (A)that you also should do just as I have done to you. 16 Truly, truly, I say to you, (B)a servant[a] is not greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. 17 If you know these things, (C)blessed are you if you do them. 18 (D)I am not speaking of all of you; I know (E)whom I have chosen. But (F)the Scripture will be fulfilled,[b] (G)‘He who ate my bread has lifted his heel against me.’ 19 (H)I am telling you this now, before it takes place, that when it does take place you may believe that I am he. 20 Truly, truly, I say to you, (I)whoever receives the one I send receives me, and whoever receives me receives the one who sent me.”

One of You Will Betray Me

21 After saying these things, (J)Jesus was troubled in his spirit, and testified, (K)“Truly, truly, I say to you, (L)one of you will betray me.” 22 (M)The disciples looked at one another, uncertain of whom he spoke. 23 (N)One of his disciples, whom Jesus loved, was reclining at table (O)at Jesus' side,[c] 24 so Simon Peter motioned to him to ask Jesus[d] of whom he was speaking. 25 (P)So that disciple, (Q)leaning back against Jesus, said to him, “Lord, who is it?” 26 Jesus answered, (R)“It is he to whom I will give this morsel of bread (S)when I have dipped it.” So when he had dipped the morsel, (T)he gave it to Judas, (U)the son of Simon Iscariot. 27 Then after he had taken the morsel, (V)Satan entered into him. Jesus said to him, (W)“What you are going to do, do quickly.” 28 Now no one at the table knew why he said this to him. 29 Some thought that, (X)because Judas had the moneybag, Jesus was telling him, “Buy what we need (Y)for the feast,” or that he should (Z)give something to the poor. 30 So, after receiving the morsel of bread, he immediately went out. (AA)And it was night.

67 So Jesus said to (A)the twelve, “Do you want to go away as well?” 68 Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have (B)the words of eternal life, 69 and (C)we have believed, and have come to know, that (D)you are (E)the Holy One of God.” 70 Jesus answered them, (F)“Did I not choose you, (G)the twelve? And yet one of you is (H)a devil.”

Faith Without Works Is Dead

14 What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith (A)but does not have works? Can that faith save him? 15 (B)If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, 16 (C)and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what good[a] is that? 17 So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.

18 But someone will say, “You have faith and I have works.” Show me your faith (D)apart from your works, and I will show you my faith (E)by my works. 19 (F)You believe that God is one; you do well. Even (G)the demons believe—and shudder! 20 Do you want to be shown, you foolish person, that faith apart from works is useless?

The Parable of the Tenants

33 (A)“Hear another parable. There was a master of a house who planted (B)a vineyard (C)and put a fence around it and dug a winepress in it and built a tower and (D)leased it to tenants, and (E)went into another country. 34 When the season for fruit drew near, he sent his servants[a] to the tenants (F)to get his fruit. 35 (G)And the tenants took his servants and beat one, killed another, and (H)stoned another. 36 (I)Again he sent other servants, more than the first. And they did the same to them. 37 Finally he sent his son to them, saying, ‘They will respect my son.’ 38 But when the tenants saw the son, they said to themselves, (J)‘This is the heir. Come, (K)let us kill him and have his inheritance.’ 39 And they took him and (L)threw him out of the vineyard and killed him. 40 (M)When therefore the owner of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those tenants?” 41 They said to him, (N)“He will put those wretches to a miserable death and (O)let out the vineyard to other tenants who will give him the fruits in their seasons.”

42 Jesus said to them, (P)“Have you never read in the Scriptures:

(Q)“‘The stone that the builders rejected
    has become the cornerstone;[b]
this was the Lord's doing,
and it is marvelous in our eyes’?

43 Therefore I tell you, the kingdom of God (R)will be taken away from you and given to a people (S)producing its fruits. 44 And (T)the one who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces; and (U)when it falls on anyone, it will crush him.”[c]

45 When the chief priests and the Pharisees heard his parables, they perceived that he was speaking about them. 46 And (V)although they were seeking to arrest him, (W)they feared the crowds, because they held him to be (X)a prophet.
