God is jealous over those he loves; that is why he takes vengeance on those who hurt them. He furiously destroys their enemies. He is slow in getting angry, but when aroused, his power is incredible, and he does not easily forgive. He shows his power in the terrors of the cyclone and the raging storms; clouds are billowing dust beneath his feet! At his command the oceans and rivers become dry sand; the lush pastures of Bashan and Carmel fade away; the green forests of Lebanon wilt.

The Lord’s Anger Against Nineveh

The Lord is a jealous(A) and avenging God;
    the Lord takes vengeance(B) and is filled with wrath.
The Lord takes vengeance on his foes
    and vents his wrath against his enemies.(C)
The Lord is slow to anger(D) but great in power;
    the Lord will not leave the guilty unpunished.(E)
His way is in the whirlwind(F) and the storm,(G)
    and clouds(H) are the dust of his feet.
He rebukes(I) the sea and dries it up;(J)
    he makes all the rivers run dry.
Bashan and Carmel(K) wither
    and the blossoms of Lebanon fade.
