Nehemiah 1:2-4

2 that (A)Hanani, one of my brothers, and [a]some men from Judah came; and I asked them concerning the Jews who had escaped and had survived the captivity, and about Jerusalem. 3 They said to me, “The remnant there in the (B)province who survived the captivity are in great distress and (C)reproach, and (D)the wall of Jerusalem is broken down and (E)its gates are burned with fire.”
4 When I heard these words, (F)I sat down and wept and mourned for days; and I was fasting and praying before (G)the God of heaven.

New International Version
2 Hanani,(A) one of my brothers, came from Judah with some other men, and I questioned them about the Jewish remnant(B) that had survived the exile, and also about Jerusalem.
3 They said to me, “Those who survived the exile and are back in the province are in great trouble and disgrace. The wall of Jerusalem is broken down, and its gates have been burned with fire.(C)”
4 When I heard these things, I sat down and wept.(D) For some days I mourned and fasted(E) and prayed before the God of heaven.
