²⁵ Palal the son of Uzai made repairs in front of the Angle and the tower projecting from the upper house of the king, which is by ^(A)the courtyard of the guard. After him Pedaiah the son of Parosh made repairs.

² Now at that time the army of the king of Babylon was besieging Jerusalem, and Jeremiah the prophet was imprisoned in the ^(A)courtyard of the guard, which was at the house of the king of Judah,

²¹ Then King Zedekiah gave a command, and they placed Jeremiah in custody in the ^(A)courtyard of the guardhouse, and gave him a loaf of ^(B)bread daily from the bakers’ street, until all the bread in the city was ^(C)gone. So Jeremiah remained in the courtyard of the guardhouse.

⁶ So they took Jeremiah and threw him into the ^(A)cistern of Malchijah the king’s son, which was in the courtyard of the guardhouse; and they let Jeremiah down with ropes. Now in the cistern there was no water but only ^(B)mud, and Jeremiah sank into the mud.

¹⁴ they even sent word and ^(A)took Jeremiah out of the courtyard of the guardhouse and entrusted him to ^(B)Gedaliah, the son of ^(C)Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, to take him home. So he stayed among the people.

¹⁵ Now the word of the Lord had come to Jeremiah while he was ^(D)confined in the courtyard of the guardhouse, saying,
