2 I gave (A)my brother Hanani and Hananiah the governor of (B)the castle charge over Jerusalem, for he was (C)a more faithful and God-fearing man than many. 3 And I said to them, “Let not the gates of Jerusalem be opened until the sun is hot. And while they are still standing guard, let them shut and bar the doors. Appoint guards from among the inhabitants of Jerusalem, some at their guard posts and some in front of their own homes.” 4 The city was wide and large, but the people within it were few, and no houses had been rebuilt.

2 I put in charge of Jerusalem my brother Hanani,(A) along with Hananiah(B) the commander of the citadel,(C) because he was a man of integrity and feared(D) God more than most people do. 3 I said to them, “The gates of Jerusalem are not to be opened until the sun is hot. While the gatekeepers are still on duty, have them shut the doors and bar them. Also appoint residents of Jerusalem as guards, some at their posts and some near their own houses.”
