²² They went up through the Negev and came to Hebron, where Ahiman, Sheshai, and Talmai, the descendants of Anak,^(A) were living. Hebron was built seven years before Zoan^(B) in Egypt.

Caleb and Othniel

¹³ He gave Caleb son of Jephunneh the following portion among the descendants of Judah based on the Lord’s instruction to Joshua: Kiriath-arba (that is, Hebron; Arba was the father of Anak). ¹⁴ Caleb drove out from there the three sons of Anak: Sheshai, Ahiman, and Talmai, descendants of Anak.

¹¹ They gave them Kiriath-arba^(A) (that is, Hebron) with its surrounding pasturelands in the hill country of Judah. Arba was the father of Anak.

²⁰ Judah gave Hebron to Caleb, just as Moses had promised.^(A) Then Caleb drove out the three sons of Anak^(B) who lived there.^[a]
