31 (A)But the men who had gone up with him said, “We are not able to go up against the people, for they are stronger than we.” 32 And they (B)gave the children of Israel a bad report of the land which they had spied out, saying, “The land through which we have gone as spies is a land that devours its inhabitants, and (C)all the people whom we saw in it are men of great stature. 33 There we saw the [a]giants ((D)the descendants of Anak came from the giants); and we were (E)like[b] grasshoppers in our own sight, and so we were (F)in their sight.”

They said, “The land we explored devours(C) those living in it. All the people we saw there are of great size.(D) 33 We saw the Nephilim(E) there (the descendants of Anak(F) come from the Nephilim). We seemed like grasshoppers(G) in our own eyes, and we looked the same to them.”

(B)I have heard the complaints which the children of Israel make against Me. 28 Say to them, (C)‘As I live,’ says the Lord, ‘just as you have spoken in My hearing, so I will do to you: 29 The carcasses of you who have complained against Me shall fall in this wilderness, (D)all of you who were numbered, according to your entire number, from twenty years old and above. 30 (E)Except for Caleb the son of Jephunneh and Joshua the son of Nun, you shall by no means enter the land which I [a]swore I would make you dwell in. 31 (F)But your little ones, whom you said would be victims, I will bring in, and they shall [b]know the land which (G)you have despised. 32 But as for you, (H)your[c] carcasses shall fall in this wilderness. 33 And your sons shall (I)be [d]shepherds in the wilderness (J)forty years, and (K)bear the brunt of your infidelity, until your carcasses are consumed in the wilderness. 34 (L)According to the number of the days in which you spied out the land, (M)forty days, for each day you shall bear your [e]guilt one year, namely forty years, (N)and you shall know My [f]rejection. 35 (O)I the Lord have spoken this. I will surely do so to all (P)this evil congregation who are gathered together against Me. In this wilderness they shall be consumed, and there they shall die.’ ”

I have heard the complaints of the Israelites, which they are making against Me. 28 Say to them, ‘As I live,’ says the Lord, ‘just what you have spoken in My hearing I will most certainly do to you; 29 your dead bodies will fall in this wilderness, even all who were numbered of you, your entire number from twenty years old and upward, who have murmured against Me.(A) 30 Except for Caleb the son of Jephunneh and Joshua the son of Nun, not one of you shall enter the land in which I swore [an oath] to settle you. 31 But your children whom you said would become plunder, I will bring in, and they will know the land which you have despised and rejected. 32 But as for you, your dead bodies will fall in this wilderness. 33 Your sons shall be wanderers and shepherds in the wilderness for forty years, and they will suffer for your unfaithfulness (spiritual infidelity), until your corpses are consumed in the wilderness. 34 According to the number of days in which you spied out the land [of Canaan], forty days, for each day, you shall bear and suffer a year for your sins and guilt, for forty years, and you shall know My displeasure [the revoking of My promise and My estrangement because of your sin]. 35 I, the Lord, have spoken. I will most certainly do this to all this evil congregation who are gathered together against Me. I have heard the complaints of these grumbling Israelites.(A) 28 So tell them, ‘As surely as I live,(B) declares the Lord, I will do to you(C) the very thing I heard you say: 29 In this wilderness your bodies will fall(D)—every one of you twenty years old or more(E) who was counted in the census(F) and who has grumbled against me. 30 Not one of you will enter the land(G) I swore with uplifted hand(H) to make your home, except Caleb son of Jephunneh(I) and Joshua son of Nun.(J) 31 As for your children that you said would be taken as plunder, I will bring them in to enjoy the land you have rejected.(K) 32 But as for you, your bodies will fall(L) in this wilderness. 33 Your children will be shepherds here for forty years,(M) suffering for your unfaithfulness, until the last of your bodies lies in the wilderness. 34 For forty years(N)—one year for each of the forty days you explored the land(O)—you will suffer for your sins and know what it is like to have me against you.’ 35 I, the Lord, have spoken, and I will surely do these things(P) to this whole wicked community, which has banded together against me. 28 Say unto them, As truly as I live, saith the Lord, as ye have spoken in mine ears, so will I do to you:
29 Your carcases shall fall in this wilderness; and all that were numbered of you, according to your whole number, from twenty years old and upward which have murmured against me.
30 Doubtless ye shall not come into the land, concerning which I sware to make you dwell therein, save Caleb the son of Jephunneh, and Joshua the son of Nun.
31 But your little ones, which ye said should be a prey, them will I bring in, and they shall know the land which ye have despised.
32 But as for you, your carcases, they shall fall in this wilderness.
33 And your children shall wander in the wilderness forty years, and bear your whoredoms, until your carcases be wasted in the wilderness.
34 After the number of the days in which ye searched the land, even forty days, each day for a year, shall ye bear your iniquities, even forty years, and ye shall know my breach of promise.
35 I the Lord have said, I will surely do it unto all this evil congregation, that are gathered together against me: in this wilderness they shall be consumed, and there they shall die.
