Numbers 21:25-31

New International Version

²⁵Israel captured all the cities of the Amorites^(A) and occupied them,^(B) including Heshbon^(C) and all its surrounding settlements. ²⁶Heshbon was the city of Sihon^(D) king of the Amorites,^(E) who had fought against the former king of Moab^(F) and had taken from him all his land as far as the Arnon.^(G)

²⁷That is why the poets say:

“Come to Heshbon and let it be rebuilt;
let Sihon’s city be restored.

²⁸“Fire went out from Heshbon,
    a blaze from the city of Sihon.^(H)
It consumed^(I) Ar^(J) of Moab,
    the citizens of Arnon’s heights.^(K)
²⁹Woe to you, Moab!^(L)
    You are destroyed, people of Chemosh!^(M)
He has given up his sons as fugitives^(N)
    and his daughters as captives^(O)
    to Sihon king of the Amorites.

³⁰“But we have overthrown them;
Heshbon’s dominion has been destroyed all the way to Dibon.^(P)
We have demolished them as far as Nophah,
which extends to Medeba.^(Q)”

³¹So Israel settled in the land of the Amorites.^(R)

³⁷And the Reubenites rebuilt Heshbon,^(A) Elealeh^(B) and Kiriathaim,^(C) ³⁸as well as Nebo^(D) and Baal Meon (these names were changed) and Sibmah.^(E) They gave names to the cities they rebuilt.
