25 Israel captured all the cities of the Amorites(A) and occupied them,(B) including Heshbon(C) and all its surrounding settlements. 26 Heshbon was the city of Sihon(D) king of the Amorites,(E) who had fought against the former king of Moab(F) and had taken from him all his land as far as the Arnon.(G)

27 That is why the poets say:

“Come to Heshbon and let it be rebuilt;
    let Sihon’s city be restored.

28 “Fire went out from Heshbon,
    a blaze from the city of Sihon.(H)
It consumed(I) Ar(J) of Moab,
    the citizens of Arnon’s heights.(K)
29 Woe to you, Moab!(L)
    You are destroyed, people of Chemosh!(M)
He has given up his sons as fugitives(N)
    and his daughters as captives(O)

    which extends to Medeba.(Q)

31 So Israel settled in the land of the Amorites.(R)

29 Woe to thee, Moab! thou art undone, O people of Chemosh: he hath given his sons that escaped, and his daughters, into captivity unto Sihon king of the Amorites.

30 We have shot at them; Heshbon is perished even unto Dibon, and we have laid them waste even unto Nophah, which reacheth unto Medeba.

31 Thus Israel dwelt in the land of the Amorites.
