¹⁷ who ^(A)will go out ^[a]and come in before them, and lead them out and ^[b]bring them in, so that the congregation of the Lord will not be ^(B)like sheep that have no shepherd.”

³⁴ Now one man drew his bow at random and struck the king of Israel ^[a]in a joint of the armor. So he said to the driver of his chariot, “Turn ^[b]around and take me out of the battle, ^(A)for I am severely wounded.” ³⁵ The battle ^[c]raged on that day, and the king was propped up in his chariot in front of the Arameans, and he died at evening, and the blood from the wound ran into the bottom of the chariot. ^36 (B)Then the word passed throughout the army close to sunset, saying, “Every man to his city, and every man to his ^[d]country!”

¹⁶ So he said,

^36 (A)Seeing the crowds, He felt compassion for them, ^(B)because they were ^[a]distressed and downcast, like sheep ^[b]without a shepherd.

³⁴ When Jesus went ^[a]ashore, He ^(A)saw a large crowd, and He felt compassion for them because ^(B)they were like sheep without a shepherd; and He began to teach them many things.
