Numbers 3:3-5

International Standard Version

³who^[a] were anointed priests and whom he consecrated^[b] as priests. ⁴Nadab and Abihu died in the Lord’s presence when they offered unauthorized^[c] fire before him^[d] in the Sinai wilderness. Since they didn’t have their own children, Eleazar and Ithamar ministered as priests under the authority of^[e] Aaron their father.

³Those were the names of Aaron’s sons, the anointed priests,^(A) who were ordained to serve as priests. ⁴Nadab and Abihu, however, died before the Lord^(B) when they made an offering with unauthorized fire before him in the Desert of Sinai.^(C) They had no sons, so Eleazar and Ithamar^(D) served as priests during the lifetime of their father Aaron.^(E)
