Seventy Elders Anointed

¹⁶ The Lord answered Moses, “Bring me seventy men from Israel known to you as elders and officers of the people. Take them to the tent of meeting and have them stand there with you. ¹⁷ Then I will come down and speak with you there. I will take some of the Spirit who is on you and put the Spirit on them.^(A) They will help you bear the burden of the people, so that you do not have to bear it by yourself.^(B)

¹³ So Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him^(A) in the presence of his brothers, and the Spirit of the Lord came powerfully on David from that day forward.^(B) Then Samuel set out and went to Ramah.

²¹ “As for me, this is my covenant with them,”^(A) says the Lord: “My Spirit who is on you, and my words that I have put in your mouth,^(B) will not depart from your mouth, or from the mouths of your children, or from the mouths of your children’s children, from now on and forever,” says the Lord.

²⁰ He then rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant, and sat down.^(B) And the eyes of everyone in the synagogue were fixed on him. ²¹ He began by saying to them, “Today as you listen, this Scripture has been fulfilled.”^(C)
