Philemon 4-9
New Revised Standard Version Updated Edition
Philemon’s Love and Faith
4 I thank my God always when I mention you[a] in my prayers, 5 because I hear of your love for all the saints and your faith toward the Lord Jesus.(A) 6 I pray that the partnership of your faith may become effective as you comprehend all the good that we[b] share in Christ.[c] 7 I have[d] indeed received much joy and encouragement from your love, because the hearts of the saints have been refreshed through you, my brother.(B)
Paul’s Plea for Onesimus

Thanksgiving and Prayer
4 I always thank my God(A) as I remember you in my prayers,(B) 5 because I hear about your love for all his holy people(C) and your faith in the Lord Jesus.(D) 6 I pray that your partnership with us in the faith may be effective in deepening your understanding of every good thing we share for the sake of Christ. 7 Your love has given me great joy and encouragement,(E) because you, brother, have refreshed(F) the hearts of the Lord’s people.
Paul’s Plea for Onesimus
8 Therefore, although in Christ I could be bold and order you to do what you ought to do, 9 yet I prefer to appeal to you(G) on the basis of love. It is as none other than Paul—an old man and now also a prisoner(H) of Christ Jesus—
Philemon 4-9
King James Version
4 I thank my God, making mention of thee always in my prayers,
5 Hearing of thy love and faith, which thou hast toward the Lord Jesus, and toward all saints;
6 That the communication of thy faith may become effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus.
7 For we have great joy and consolation in thy love, because the bowels of the saints are refreshed by thee, brother.
8 Wherefore, though I might be much bold in Christ to enjoin thee that which is convenient,
9 Yet for love's sake I rather beseech thee, being such an one as Paul the aged, and now also a prisoner of Jesus Christ.
