Proverbs 13:7-9

Good News Translation

⁷Some people pretend to be rich, but have nothing. Others pretend to be poor, but own a fortune.

⁸The rich have to use their money to save their lives, but no one threatens the poor.

⁹The righteous are like a light shining brightly; the wicked are like a lamp flickering out.

Proverbs 13:7-9

New International Version

⁷One person pretends to be rich, yet has nothing;^(A)
another pretends to be poor, yet has great wealth.^(B)

⁸A person’s riches may ransom their life,
but the poor cannot respond to threatening rebukes.^(C)

⁹The light of the righteous shines brightly,
but the lamp of the wicked is snuffed out.^(D)
