²⁷The greedy bring ruin to their households,
but the one who hates bribes will live.^(A)

¹⁷The one who loves pleasure will become a poor man;
whoever loves wine and oil will not get rich.^(A)

¹⁸The wicked are a ransom for the righteous,
and the treacherous, for^[a] the upright.^(B)

¹⁷Whoever loves pleasure will become poor;
whoever loves wine and olive oil will never be rich.^(A)

¹⁸The wicked become a ransom^(B) for the righteous,
and the unfaithful for the upright.
