Proverbs 17:26-28
English Standard Version
26 (A)To impose a fine on a righteous man is not good,
nor to strike the noble for their uprightness.
27 Whoever (B)restrains his words has knowledge,
and he who has a cool spirit is a man of understanding.
28 Even a fool (C)who keeps silent is considered wise;
when he closes his lips, he is deemed intelligent.
Proverbs 17:26-28
New International Version
26 If imposing a fine on the innocent is not good,(A)
surely to flog honest officials is not right.
27 The one who has knowledge uses words with restraint,(B)
and whoever has understanding is even-tempered.(C)
28 Even fools are thought wise if they keep silent,
and discerning if they hold their tongues.(D)
