²⁸Even fools are thought wise if they keep silent,
and discerning if they hold their tongues.^(A)

²⁸Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise: and he that shutteth his lips is esteemed a man of understanding.

²Be silent,^(A) you people of the island
and you merchants^(B) of Sidon,^(C)
whom the seafarers have enriched.

²Be still, ye inhabitants of the isle; thou whom the merchants of Zidon, that pass over the sea, have replenished.

⁵“Sit in silence,^(A) go into darkness,^(B)
queen city of the Babylonians;^(C)
no more will you be called
queen^(D) of kingdoms.^(E)

⁵Sit thou silent, and get thee into darkness, O daughter of the Chaldeans: for thou shalt no more be called, The lady of kingdoms.
