Proverbs 22:5

⁵In the paths of the wicked are snares and pitfalls,^(A)
but those who would preserve their life stay far from them.

New International Version

⁶Their cobwebs are useless for clothing;
    they cannot cover themselves with what they make.^(A)
Their deeds are evil deeds,
    and acts of violence^(B) are in their hands.
⁷Their feet rush into sin;
    they are swift to shed innocent blood.^(C)
They pursue evil schemes;^(D)
    acts of violence mark their ways.^(E)
⁸The way of peace they do not know;^(F)
    there is no justice in their paths.
They have turned them into crooked roads;^(G)
    no one who walks along them will know peace.^(H)

⁹So justice is far from us,
    and righteousness does not reach us.
We look for light, but all is darkness;^(I)
    for brightness, but we walk in deep shadows.
¹⁰Like the blind^(J) we grope along the wall,
    feeling our way like people without eyes.
At midday we stumble^(K) as if it were twilight;
    among the strong, we are like the dead.^(L)
¹¹We all growl like bears;
    we moan mournfully like doves.^(M)
We look for justice, but find none;
    for deliverance, but it is far away.

¹²For our offenses^(N) are many in your sight,
    and our sins testify^(O) against us.
Our offenses are ever with us,
    and we acknowledge our iniquities:^(P)
¹³rebellion^(Q) and treachery against the Lord,
    turning our backs^(R) on our God,
inciting revolt and oppression,^(S)
    uttering lies^(T) our hearts have conceived.
¹⁴So justice^(U) is driven back,
    and righteousness^(V) stands at a distance;
truth^(W) has stumbled in the streets,
    honesty cannot enter.
