⁴Their poison is like the poison of a serpent: they are like the deaf adder that stoppeth her ear;

⁴Their venom is like the venom of a snake,^(A)
like that of a cobra that has stopped its ears,

⁴^(A)Their poison is like the poison of a serpent;
They are like the deaf cobra that stops its ear,

⁵Which will not hearken to the voice of charmers, charming never so wisely.

⁵that will not heed^(A) the tune of the charmer,^(B)
however skillful the enchanter may be.

⁵Which will not ^(A)heed the voice of charmers,
Charming ever so skillfully.
