²⁷ I have labored and toiled^(A) and have often gone without sleep; I have known hunger and thirst and have often gone without food;^(B) I have been cold and naked.

³⁶ like servants waiting for their master to return from a wedding banquet, so that when he comes and knocks they can immediately open the door for him. ³⁷ It will be good for those servants whose master finds them watching when he comes.^(A) Truly I tell you, he will dress himself to serve, will have them recline at the table and will come and wait on them.^{(B) 38} It will be good for those servants whose master finds them ready, even if he comes in the middle of the night or toward daybreak.

Gethsemane^(A)

³⁶ Then Jesus went with his disciples to a place called Gethsemane, and he said to them, “Sit here while I go over there and pray.”

³⁸ Then he said to them, “My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow^(A) to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me.”^(B)

⁴⁰ Then he returned to his disciples and found them sleeping. “Couldn’t you men keep watch with me^(A) for one hour?” he asked Peter. ⁴¹ “Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation.^(B) The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”
