Psalm 110
1599 Geneva Bible

110 1 David prophesieth of the power and everlasting kingdom given to Christ,  4 and of his Priesthood, which should put an end to the Priesthood of Levi.

A Psalm of David.

1 The [a]Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool.

2 The Lord shall send the rod of thy power out of [b]Zion: be thou ruler in the midst of thine enemies.

3 Thy people shall come willingly at the time of assembling [c]thine army in holy beauty: the youth of thy womb shall be as the morning dew.

4 The Lord sware, and will not repent, Thou art a Priest forever, after the order of [d]Melchizedek.

5 The Lord that is at thy right hand, shall wound kings in the day of his wrath.

6 He shall be judge among the heathen: he shall fill all with dead bodies, and smite the [e]head over great countries.

7 He shall [f]drink of the brook in the way: therefore shall he lift up his head.

  2. Psalm 110:2 And thence it shalt stretch through all the world: and this power chiefly standeth in the preaching of his word.
  3. Psalm 110:3 By the word thy people shall be assembled into thy Church whose increase shall be so abundant and wonderous as the drops of the water.
  4. Psalm 110:4 As Melchizedek the figure of Christ was both a King and Priest, so this effect cannot be accomplished on any king save only Christ, Heb. 7:26.
  5. Psalm 110:6 No power shall be able to resist him.
  6. Psalm 110:7 Under this similitude of a captain that is so greedy to destroy his enemies, that he will not scarce drink by the way, he showeth how God will destroy his enemies.

Psalm 110

Of David. A psalm.

1 The Lord says(A) to my lord:[a]

“Sit at my right hand(B)
    until I make your enemies
    a footstool for your feet.”(C)

2 The Lord will extend your mighty scepter(D) from Zion,(E) saying,
    “Rule(F) in the midst of your enemies!”
3 Your troops will be willing
    on your day of battle.
Arrayed in holy splendor,(G)
    your young men will come to you
    like dew from the morning’s womb.[b](H)

4 The Lord has sworn
    and will not change his mind:(I)
“You are a priest forever,(J)
    in the order of Melchizedek.(K)”

5 The Lord is at your right hand[c];(L)
    he will crush kings(M) on the day of his wrath.(N)
6 He will judge the nations,(O) heaping up the dead(P)
    and crushing the rulers(Q) of the whole earth.
7 He will drink from a brook along the way,[d]
    and so he will lift his head high.(R)
