16 The heavens are (A)the heavens of the Lord,
But (B)the earth He has given to the sons of mankind.
17 The (C)dead do not praise [a]the Lord,
Nor do any who go down into (D)silence;
18 But as for us, we will (E)bless [b]the Lord
From this time and forever.

17 It is not the dead(C) who praise the Lord,
    those who go down to the place of silence;
18 it is we who extol the Lord,(D)
    both now and forevermore.(E)
