ג Gimel

17 Be good to your servant(A) while I live,
    that I may obey your word.(B)
18 Open my eyes that I may see
    wonderful things in your law.
19 I am a stranger on earth;(C)
    do not hide your commands from me.
20 My soul is consumed(D) with longing
    for your laws(E) at all times.
21 You rebuke the arrogant,(F) who are accursed,(G)
    those who stray(H) from your commands.
22 Remove from me their scorn(I) and contempt,
    for I keep your statutes.(J)
23 Though rulers sit together and slander me,
    your servant will meditate on your decrees.
24 Your statutes are my delight;
    they are my counselors.

ד Daleth

25 I am laid low in the dust;(K)
    preserve my life(L) according to your word.(M)
26 I gave an account of my ways and you answered me;
    teach me your decrees.(N)
27 Cause me to understand the way of your precepts,
    that I may meditate on your wonderful deeds.(O)
28 My soul is weary with sorrow;(P)
    strengthen me(Q) according to your word.(R)
29 Keep me from deceitful ways;(S)
    be gracious to me(T) and teach me your law.
30 I have chosen(U) the way of faithfulness;(V)
    I have set my heart(W) on your laws.
31 I hold fast(X) to your statutes, Lord;
    do not let me be put to shame.
32 I run in the path of your commands,
    for you have broadened my understanding.

Locusts, Fire and a Plumb Line

This is what the Sovereign Lord showed me:(A) He was preparing swarms of locusts(B) after the king’s share had been harvested and just as the late crops were coming up. When they had stripped the land clean,(C) I cried out, “Sovereign Lord, forgive! How can Jacob survive?(D) He is so small!(E)

So the Lord relented.(F)

“This will not happen,” the Lord said.(G)

This is what the Sovereign Lord showed me: The Sovereign Lord was calling for judgment by fire;(H) it dried up the great deep and devoured(I) the land. Then I cried out, “Sovereign Lord, I beg you, stop! How can Jacob survive? He is so small!(J)

So the Lord relented.(K)

“This will not happen either,” the Sovereign Lord said.(L)

27 To them God has chosen to make known(A) among the Gentiles the glorious riches(B) of this mystery, which is Christ in you,(C) the hope of glory.

28 He is the one we proclaim, admonishing(D) and teaching everyone with all wisdom,(E) so that we may present everyone fully mature(F) in Christ. 29 To this end I strenuously(G) contend(H) with all the energy Christ so powerfully works in me.(I)

I want you to know how hard I am contending(J) for you and for those at Laodicea,(K) and for all who have not met me personally. My goal is that they may be encouraged in heart(L) and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery(M) of God, namely, Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.(N) I tell you this so that no one may deceive you by fine-sounding arguments.(O) For though I am absent from you in body, I am present with you in spirit(P) and delight to see how disciplined(Q) you are and how firm(R) your faith in Christ(S) is.

Spiritual Fullness in Christ

So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord,(T) continue to live your lives in him, rooted(U) and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught,(V) and overflowing with thankfulness.
