² They ^(A)speak ^[a]falsehood to one another;
With ^(B)flattering ^[b]lips and with a double heart they speak.

²⁴ He who ^(A)hates disguises it with his lips,
But he lays up ^(B)deceit in his ^[a]heart.
²⁵ When ^[b]he ^(C)speaks graciously, do not believe him,
For there are seven abominations in his heart.

⁸ “Their ^(A)tongue is a deadly arrow;
It speaks deceit;
With his mouth one ^(B)speaks peace to his neighbor,
But inwardly he ^(C)sets an ambush for him.

⁵ Do not ^(A)trust in a neighbor;
Do not have confidence in a friend.
From her who lies in your bosom
Guard ^[a]your lips.
⁶ For ^(B)son treats father contemptuously,
Daughter rises up against her mother,
Daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law;
^(C)A man’s enemies are the men of his own household.
