Psalm 120

A song for pilgrims ascending to Jerusalem.

I took my troubles to the Lord;
    I cried out to him, and he answered my prayer.
Rescue me, O Lord, from liars
    and from all deceitful people.
O deceptive tongue, what will God do to you?
    How will he increase your punishment?
You will be pierced with sharp arrows
    and burned with glowing coals.

How I suffer in far-off Meshech.
    It pains me to live in distant Kedar.
I am tired of living
    among people who hate peace.
I search for peace;
    but when I speak of peace, they want war!

Cántico para los peregrinos que suben a Jerusalén.

120 Llevé mis problemas al Señor;
    clamé a él, y respondió a mi oración.
Rescátame, oh Señor, de los mentirosos
    y de todos los embusteros.
¡Ay, lengua engañosa! ¿Qué hará Dios contigo?
    ¿Cómo aumentará tu castigo?
Te atravesarán con flechas afiladas
    y te quemarán con brasas encendidas.

Cuánto sufro en el lejano Mesec.
    Me duele habitar en el distante Cedar.
Estoy cansado de vivir
    entre personas que odian la paz.
Busco la paz;
    pero, cuando hablo de paz, ¡ellos quieren guerra!

Psalm 120

A song of ascents.

I call on the Lord(A) in my distress,(B)
    and he answers me.
Save me, Lord,
    from lying lips(C)
    and from deceitful tongues.(D)

What will he do to you,
    and what more besides,
    you deceitful tongue?
He will punish you with a warrior’s sharp arrows,(E)
    with burning coals of the broom bush.

Woe to me that I dwell in Meshek,
    that I live among the tents of Kedar!(F)
Too long have I lived
    among those who hate peace.
I am for peace;
    but when I speak, they are for war.
