18 knowing that you were not [a](A)redeemed with perishable things like silver or gold from your (B)futile way of life inherited from your forefathers, 19 but with precious (C)blood, as of a (D)lamb unblemished and spotless, the blood of Christ. 20 For He was (E)foreknown before (F)the foundation of the world, but has (G)appeared [b]in these last times (H)for the sake of you 21 who through Him are (I)believers in God, who raised Him from the dead and (J)gave Him glory, so that your faith and (K)hope are in God.
22 Since you have (L)purified your souls (M)in obedience to the truth for a (N)sincere love of the brothers and sisters, fervently love one another from [c]the heart, 23 for you have been (O)born again (P)not of seed which is perishable, but imperishable, that is, through the living and enduring (Q)word of God. 24 For,
“(R)All flesh is like grass,
And all its glory is like the flower of grass.
The grass withers,
And the flower falls off,
25 (S)But the word of the Lord endures forever.”
And this is (T)the word which was [d]preached to you.

18 For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed(A) from the empty way of life(B) handed down to you from your ancestors, 19 but with the precious blood(C) of Christ, a lamb(D) without blemish or defect.(E) 20 He was chosen before the creation of the world,(F) but was revealed in these last times(G) for your sake. 21 Through him you believe in God,(H) who raised him from the dead(I) and glorified him,(J) and so your faith and hope(K) are in God.
22 Now that you have purified(L) yourselves by obeying(M) the truth so that you have sincere love for each other, love one another deeply,(N) from the heart.[a] 23 For you have been born again,(O) not of perishable seed, but of imperishable,(P) through the living and enduring word of God.(Q) 24 For,
“All people are like grass,
and all their glory is like the flowers of the field;
the grass withers and the flowers fall,
25 but the word of the Lord endures forever.”[b](R)
And this is the word that was preached to you.
