²⁹ All who prosper on earth will eat and bow down;
all those who go down to the dust
will kneel before Him—
even the one who cannot preserve his life.^(A)

²³ Kings will be your foster fathers,
and their queens^[a] your nursing mothers.^(A)
They will bow down to you
with their faces to the ground,
and lick the dust at your feet.^(B)
Then you will know that I am Yahweh;^(C)
those who put their hope in Me
will not be put to shame.^(D)

¹⁷ They will lick the dust like a snake;^(A)
they will come trembling out of their hiding places^(B)
like reptiles slithering on the ground.^(C)
They will tremble in the presence of Yahweh our God;^(D)
they will stand in awe of You.
