Prayer that the Lord Will Restore Favor to the Land

To the Chief Musician. A Psalm (A)of the sons of Korah.

85 Lord, You have been favorable to Your land;
You have (B)brought back the captivity of Jacob.
You have forgiven the iniquity of Your people;
You have covered all their sin. Selah

I will hear what God the Lord will speak,
For He will speak peace
To His people and to His saints;
But let them not turn back to [a]folly.
Surely (A)His salvation is near to those who fear Him,
(B)That glory may dwell in our land.

10 Mercy and truth have met together;
(C)Righteousness and peace have kissed.
11 Truth shall spring out of the earth,
And righteousness shall look down from heaven.
12 (D)Yes, the Lord will give what is good;
And our land will yield its increase.
13 Righteousness will go before Him,
And shall make His footsteps our pathway.

A Call to Repentance

Come,(A) and let us return to the Lord;
For (B)He has torn, but (C)He will heal us;
He has stricken, but He will [a]bind us up.
(D)After two days He will revive us;
On the third day He will raise us up,
That we may live in His sight.
(E)Let us know,
Let us pursue the knowledge of the Lord.
His going forth is established (F)as the morning;
(G)He will come to us (H)like the rain,
Like the latter and former rain to the earth.

Impenitence of Israel and Judah

“O Ephraim, what shall I do to you?
O Judah, what shall I do to you?
For your faithfulness is like a morning cloud,
And like the early dew it goes away.
Therefore I have hewn them by the prophets,
I have slain them by (I)the words of My mouth;
And [b]your judgments are like light that goes forth.
For I desire (J)mercy[c] and (K)not sacrifice,
And the (L)knowledge of God more than burnt offerings.

Their Good Example

(A)We give thanks to God always for you all, making mention of you in our prayers, remembering without ceasing (B)your work of faith, (C)labor of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ in the sight of our God and Father, knowing, beloved brethren, (D)your election by God. For (E)our gospel did not come to you in word only, but also in power, (F)and in the Holy Spirit (G)and in much assurance, as you know what kind of men we were among you for your sake.

And (H)you became followers of us and of the Lord, having received the word in much affliction, (I)with joy of the Holy Spirit, so that you became examples to all in Macedonia and Achaia who believe. For from you the word of the Lord (J)has sounded forth, not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but also (K)in every place. Your faith toward God has gone out, so that we do not need to say anything. For they themselves declare concerning us (L)what manner of entry we had to you, (M)and how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God, 10 and (N)to wait for His Son from heaven, whom He raised from the dead, even Jesus who delivers us (O)from the wrath to come.
