8 And I looked, and there was a pale green[a] horse. Its rider was named Death, and Hades was following after him.(A) They were[b] given authority(B) over a fourth of the earth, to kill by the sword, by famine, by plague, and by the wild animals of the earth.(C)

9 When he opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slaughtered because of the word of God and the testimony they had given.[c](D) 10 They cried out with a loud voice, “Lord,[d] the one who is holy and true,(E) how long until you judge those who live on the earth and avenge our blood?(F)”

8 I looked, and there before me was a pale horse!(A) Its rider was named Death, and Hades(B) was following close behind him. They were given power over a fourth of the earth to kill by sword, famine and plague, and by the wild beasts of the earth.(C)
9 When he opened the fifth seal, I saw under(D) the altar(E) the souls of those who had been slain(F) because of the word of God(G) and the testimony they had maintained. 10 They called out in a loud voice, “How long,(H) Sovereign Lord,(I) holy and true,(J) until you judge the inhabitants of the earth(K) and avenge our blood?”(L)
