⁴ Therefore we have been ^(A)buried with Him through baptism into death, so that, just as Christ was ^(B)raised from the dead through the ^(C)glory of the Father, so we too may walk in ^(D)newness of life.

¹⁰ And the ^(A)axe is already laid at the root of the trees; therefore, ^(B)every tree that does not bear good fruit is being cut down and thrown into the fire.

¹¹ “As for me, ^(C)I baptize you ^[a]with water for repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, and I am not fit to remove His sandals; ^(D)He will baptize you ^[b]with the Holy Spirit and fire. ¹² His ^(E)winnowing fork is in His hand, and He will thoroughly clear His threshing floor; and He will ^(F)gather His wheat into the barn, but He will burn up the ^(G)chaff with ^(H)unquenchable fire.”

^16 (A)John responded to them all, saying, “As for me, I baptize you with water; but He is coming who is mightier than I, and I am not fit to untie the straps of His sandals; He will baptize you ^[a]with the Holy Spirit and fire. ¹⁷ His ^(B)winnowing fork is in His hand to thoroughly clear His threshing floor, and to gather the wheat into His barn; but He will burn up the chaff with ^(C)unquenchable fire.”
