20 And in this way I aspired to (A)preach the gospel, not where Christ was already known by name, (B)so that I would not build on another person’s foundation;

20 It has always been my ambition to preach the gospel(A) where Christ was not known, so that I would not be building on someone else’s foundation.(B)

11 For no one can lay a (A)foundation other than the one which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. 12 Now if anyone builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, or straw, 13 (B)each one’s work will become evident; for (C)the day will show it because it is to be revealed with fire, and the fire itself will test [a]the quality of each one’s work. 14 If anyone’s work which he has built on it remains, he will (D)receive a reward. 15 If anyone’s work is burned up, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet only (E)so as through fire.

16 (F)Do you not know that (G)you are a [b]temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? 17 If anyone destroys the [c]temple of God, God will destroy [d]that person; for the [e]temple of God is holy, [f]and that is what you are.

18 (H)Take care that no one deceives himself. (I)If anyone among you thinks that he is wise in (J)this age, he must become foolish, so that he may become wise. 19 For (K)the wisdom of this world is foolishness in the sight of God. For it is written: “He is (L)the one who catches the wise by their craftiness”; 20 and again, “(M)The Lord knows the thoughts of the wise, that they are useless.” 21 So then, (N)no one is to be boasting in people. For (O)all things belong to you, 22 (P)whether Paul or Apollos or [g]Cephas, or the world or (Q)life or death, or things present or things to come; all things belong to you, 23 and (R)you belong to Christ, and (S)Christ belongs to God.

11 For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ.(A) 12 If anyone builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, 13 their work will be shown for what it is,(B) because the Day(C) will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each person’s work.(D) 14 If what has been built survives, the builder will receive a reward.(E) 15 If it is burned up, the builder will suffer loss but yet will be saved—even though only as one escaping through the flames.(F)

16 Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple(G) and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst?(H) 17 If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy that person; for God’s temple is sacred, and you together are that temple.

18 Do not deceive yourselves. If any of you think you are wise(I) by the standards of this age,(J) you should become “fools” so that you may become wise. 19 For the wisdom of this world is foolishness(K) in God’s sight. As it is written: “He catches the wise in their craftiness”[a];(L) 20 and again, “The Lord knows that the thoughts of the wise are futile.”[b](M) 21 So then, no more boasting about human leaders!(N) All things are yours,(O) 22 whether Paul or Apollos(P) or Cephas[c](Q) or the world or life or death or the present or the future(R)—all are yours, 23 and you are of Christ,(S) and Christ is of God.
