⁹ What then? Are we any better off?^[a] Not at all! For we have already charged that both Jews^(A) and Greeks^(B) are all under sin,^[b](C)

²² But the Scripture imprisoned everything under sin’s power,^[a](A) so that the promise might be given on the basis of faith^(B) in Jesus Christ to those who believe.^{(C) 23} Before this faith^(D) came, we were confined under the law, imprisoned until the coming faith was revealed.^(E)
