13 for before the law was given,[a] sin was in the world, but there is no accounting for sin[b] when there is no law. 14 Yet death reigned from Adam until Moses even over those who did not sin in the same way that Adam (who is a type[c] of the coming one) transgressed.[d] 15 But the gracious gift is not like the transgression.[e] For if the many died through the transgression of the one man,[f] how much more did the grace of God and the gift by the grace of the one man Jesus Christ multiply to the many!

13 To be sure, sin was in the world before the law was given, but sin is not charged against anyone’s account where there is no law.(A) 14 Nevertheless, death reigned from the time of Adam to the time of Moses, even over those who did not sin by breaking a command, as did Adam,(B) who is a pattern of the one to come.(C)

15 But the gift is not like the trespass. For if the many died by the trespass of the one man,(D) how much more did God’s grace and the gift that came by the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ,(E) overflow to the many!
