16 But if what I don’t desire, that I do, I consent to the law that it is good. 17 So now it is no more I that do it, but sin which dwells in me. 18 For I know that in me, that is, in my flesh, dwells no good thing. For desire is present with me, but I don’t find it doing that which is good.

16 And if I do what I do not want to do, I agree that the law is good.(A) 17 As it is, it is no longer I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me.(B) 18 For I know that good itself does not dwell in me, that is, in my sinful nature.[a](C) For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out.
