For (A)those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, (B)the things of the Spirit. For (C)to be [a]carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because (D)the [b]carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, (E)nor indeed can be. So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God.

But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His. 10 And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.

For those who are in accord with the flesh set their minds on (A)the things of the flesh, but those who are in accord with the Spirit, (B)the things of the Spirit. (C)For the mind [a]set on the flesh is (D)death, but the mind [b]set on the Spirit is life and peace, because the mind [c]set on the flesh is (E)hostile toward God; for it does not subject itself to the law of God, for it is not even able to do so, and those who are (F)in the flesh cannot please God.

For those who are living according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh [which gratify the body], but those who are living according to the Spirit, [set their minds on] the things of the Spirit [His will and purpose]. Now the mind of the flesh is death [both now and forever—because it pursues sin]; but the mind of the Spirit is life and peace [the spiritual well-being that comes from walking with God—both now and forever]; the mind of the flesh [with its sinful pursuits] is actively hostile to God. It does not submit itself to God’s law, since it cannot, and those who are in the flesh [living a life that caters to sinful appetites and impulses] cannot please God.

However, you are not [living] in the flesh [controlled by the sinful nature] but in the Spirit, if in fact the Spirit of God lives in you [directing and guiding you]. But if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Him [and is not a child of God].(A) 10 If Christ lives in you, though your [natural] body is dead because of sin, your spirit is alive because of righteousness [which He provides].

Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires;(A) but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires.(B) The mind governed by the flesh is death,(C) but the mind governed by the Spirit is life(D) and peace. The mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God;(E) it does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so. Those who are in the realm of the flesh(F) cannot please God.

You, however, are not in the realm of the flesh(G) but are in the realm of the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you.(H) And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ,(I) they do not belong to Christ. 10 But if Christ is in you,(J) then even though your body is subject to death because of sin, the Spirit gives life[a] because of righteousness.

  1. Romans 8:10 Or you, your body is dead because of sin, yet your spirit is alive

For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.

For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.

Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.

So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.

But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.

10 And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.
