¹¹ For sin, seizing an opportunity through the commandment, deceived me,^(A) and through it killed me.

¹⁸ for such people do not serve our Lord Christ^(A) but their own appetites.^[a](B) They deceive the hearts of the unsuspecting with smooth talk and flattering words.^(C)

The Folly of Human Wisdom

¹⁸ No one should deceive^(A) himself. If anyone among you thinks he is wise in this age,^(B) he must become foolish^(C) so that he can become wise.^(D)

³ Don’t let anyone deceive you in any way. For that day will not come unless the apostasy^[a] comes first and the man of lawlessness^[b] is revealed, the son of destruction.
