With which his mother has crowned him

Judah’s Women Denounced

16 Moreover, the Lord said, “Because the (A)daughters of Zion are haughty
And walk with [a]heads held high and seductive eyes,
And go along with mincing steps
And jingle the anklets on their feet,
17 The Lord will afflict the scalp of the daughters of Zion with scabs,
And the Lord will make their foreheads bare.”

18 On that day the Lord will take away the beauty of their anklets, headbands, (B)crescent ornaments, 19 dangling earrings, bracelets, veils, 20 (C)headdresses, ankle chains, sashes, perfume boxes, amulets, 21 [b]finger rings, (D)nose rings, 22 festive robes, outer garments, shawls, purses, 23 papyrus garments, undergarments, headbands, and veils.

24 Now it will come about that instead of (E)balsam oil there will be a stench;

(B)Listen to my word,
You complacent daughters.
10 Within a year and a few days
You will be troubled, you complacent daughters;
(C)For the vintage is ended,
And the fruit gathering will not come.
11 Tremble, you women who are at ease;
(D)Be troubled, you complacent daughters;
(E)Strip, undress, and put sackcloth on your waist,
12 (F)Beat your breasts for the pleasant fields, for the fruitful vine,
13 (G)For the land of my people in which thorns and briars will come up;
Indeed, for all the joyful houses and for the (H)jubilant city.
14 For (I)the palace has been neglected, the [a]populated (J)city abandoned.
[b]Hill and watch-tower have become (K)caves forever,
A delight for (L)wild donkeys, a pasture for flocks,
15 Until the (M)Spirit is poured out upon us from on high,
And the wilderness becomes a (N)fertile field,
And the fertile field is considered as a forest.
