8 In that day Yahweh will defend the inhabitants of Jerusalem. He who is feeble among them at that day will be like David, and David’s house will be like God, like Yahweh’s angel before them. 9 It will happen in that day, that I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem. 10 I will pour on David’s house, and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplication; and they will look to me[a] whom they have pierced; and they shall mourn for him, as one mourns for his only son, and will grieve bitterly for him, as one grieves for his firstborn.

8 On that day the Lord will shield(A) those who live in Jerusalem, so that the feeblest(B) among them will be like David, and the house of David will be like God,(C) like the angel of the Lord going before(D) them. 9 On that day I will set out to destroy all the nations(E) that attack Jerusalem.(F)
Mourning for the One They Pierced
10 “And I will pour out on the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit[a](G) of grace and supplication.(H) They will look on[b] me, the one they have pierced,(I) and they will mourn for him as one mourns for an only child,(J) and grieve bitterly for him as one grieves for a firstborn son.(K)
