Zechariah 9:9-13

The Coming King of Zion

⁹^(A)Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion!
    Shout aloud, O daughter of Jerusalem!
^(B)Behold, ^(C)your king is coming to you;
    righteous and having salvation is he,
^(D)humble and mounted on a donkey,
    on a colt, the foal of a donkey.
¹⁰^(E)I will cut off the chariot from Ephraim
    and ^(F)the war horse from Jerusalem;
and the battle bow shall be cut off,
    and ^(G)he shall speak peace to the nations;
^(H)his rule shall be from sea to sea,
    and from ^(I)the River^[a] to the ends of the earth.
¹¹As for you also, because of ^(J)the blood of my covenant with you,
    ^(K)I will set your prisoners free from ^(L)the waterless pit.
¹²Return to your stronghold, O ^(M)prisoners of hope;
    today I declare that ^(N)I will restore to you double.
¹³For ^(O)I have bent Judah as my bow;
    I have made Ephraim its arrow.
I will stir up your sons, O Zion,
    against your sons, ^(P)O Greece,
    and wield you like a warrior's sword.

²⁸And when he had said these things, ^(A)he went on ahead, ^(B)going up to Jerusalem. ²⁹^(C)When he drew near to Bethphage and ^(D)Bethany, at ^(E)the mount that is called Olivet, he sent ^(F)two of the disciples, ³⁰saying, “Go into the village in front of you, where on entering you will find a colt tied, ^(G)on which no one has ever yet sat. Untie it and bring it here. ³¹If anyone asks you, ‘Why are you untying it?’ you shall say this: ‘The Lord has need of it.’” ³²So those who were sent went away and found it ^(H)just as he had told them. ³³And as they were untying the colt, its owners said to them, “Why are you untying the colt?” ³⁴And they said, “The Lord has need of it.” ³⁵And they brought it to Jesus, and throwing their cloaks on the colt, they set Jesus on it. ³⁶And as he rode along, they ^(I)spread their cloaks on the road. ³⁷As he was drawing near—already on the way down the Mount of Olives—^(J)the whole multitude of his disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice ^(K)for all the mighty works that they had seen, ³⁸saying, ^(L)“Blessed is ^(M)the King who comes in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven and ^(N)glory in the highest!”

⁵¹When the days drew near for ^(A)him to be taken up, ^(B)he set his face ^(C)to go to Jerusalem. ⁵²And ^(D)he sent messengers ahead of him, who went and entered a village of ^(E)the Samaritans, to make preparations for him. ⁵³But ^(F)the people did not receive him, because ^(G)his face was set toward Jerusalem.
