Judgment on Jerusalem and the Nations
3 Woe to her who is rebellious and defiled,
(A)the oppressing city!
2 She listens to no voice;
(B)she accepts no correction.
(C)She does not trust in the Lord;
she does not draw near to her God.
3 (D)Her officials within her
are roaring lions;
her judges are (E)evening wolves
that leave nothing till the morning.
4 (F)Her prophets are fickle, treacherous men;
(G)her priests (H)profane what is holy;
they do violence to the law.
5 The Lord within her (I)is righteous;
he does no injustice;
every morning he shows forth his justice;
each dawn he does not fail;
but (J)the unjust knows no shame.
6 (K)“I have cut off nations;
their battlements are in ruins;
I have laid waste their streets
(L)so that no one walks in them;
their cities have been made desolate,
without a man, without an inhabitant.
7 (M)I said, ‘Surely you will fear me;
(N)you will accept correction.
Then your[a] dwelling would not be cut off
according to all that I have appointed against you.’[b]
But (O)all the more they were eager
to make all their deeds corrupt.
8 “Therefore (P)wait for me,” declares the Lord,
“for the day when I rise up to seize the prey.
For my decision is (Q)to gather nations,
to assemble kingdoms,
to pour out upon them my indignation,
all my burning anger;
for in the fire of my jealousy
(R)all the earth shall be consumed.
The Conversion of the Nations
9 “For at that time I will change the speech of the peoples
to (S)a pure speech,
that all of them may call upon the name of the Lord
and serve him with one accord.
10 (T)From beyond the rivers (U)of Cush
my worshipers, the daughter of my dispersed ones,
shall bring my offering.
11 (V)“On that day (W)you shall not be put to shame
because of the deeds by which you have rebelled against me;
for then (X)I will remove from your midst
your proudly exultant ones,
and (Y)you shall no longer be haughty
in my holy mountain.
12 But I will leave in your midst
a people (Z)humble and lowly.
(AA)They shall seek refuge in the name of the Lord,
13 (AB)those who are left in Israel;
they (AC)shall do no injustice
and speak no lies,
(AD)nor shall there be found in their mouth
a deceitful tongue.
(AE)For they shall graze and lie down,
and none shall make them afraid.”
Israel's Joy and Restoration
14 (AF)Sing aloud, O daughter of Zion;
shout, O Israel!
Rejoice and exult with all your heart,
O daughter of Jerusalem!
15 The Lord has taken away the judgments against you;
he has cleared away your enemies.
(AG)The King of Israel, (AH)the Lord, is in your midst;
you shall never again fear evil.
16 (AI)On that day it shall be said to Jerusalem:
“Fear not, O Zion;
(AJ)let not your hands grow weak.
17 (AK)The Lord your God is in your midst,
(AL)a mighty one who will save;
(AM)he will rejoice over you with gladness;
he will quiet you by his love;
he will exult over you with loud singing.
18 I will gather those of you who mourn (AN)for the festival,
so that you will no longer suffer reproach.[c]
19 Behold, at that time (AO)I will deal
with all your oppressors.
And (AP)I will save the lame
and gather the outcast,
and I will change (AQ)their shame into (AR)praise
and renown in all the earth.
20 (AS)At that time I will bring you in,
at the time when I gather you together;
for I will make you renowned and praised
among all the peoples of the earth,
(AT)when I restore your fortunes
before your eyes,” says the Lord.
The Command to Rebuild the Temple
1 (AU)In the second year of Darius the king, in the sixth month, on the first day of the month, the word of the Lord came by the hand of Haggai the prophet to (AV)Zerubbabel the son of (AW)Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to (AX)Joshua the son of (AY)Jehozadak, the high priest: 2 “Thus says the Lord of hosts: These people say the time has not yet come to rebuild the house of the Lord.” 3 Then the word of the Lord came (AZ)by the hand of Haggai the prophet, 4 (BA)“Is it a time for you yourselves to dwell in your paneled houses, while (BB)this house lies in ruins? 5 Now, therefore, thus says the Lord of hosts: (BC)Consider your ways. 6 (BD)You have sown much, and harvested little. (BE)You eat, but you never have enough; you drink, but you never have your fill. You clothe yourselves, but no one is warm. And he who (BF)earns wages does so to put them into a bag with holes.
7 “Thus says the Lord of hosts: (BG)Consider your ways. 8 Go up to the hills and bring wood and build the house, that (BH)I may take pleasure in it and that (BI)I may be glorified, says the Lord. 9 (BJ)You looked for much, and behold, it came to little. And when you brought it home, (BK)I blew it away. Why? declares the Lord of hosts. Because of my house (BL)that lies in ruins, while each of you busies himself with his own house. 10 Therefore (BM)the heavens above you have withheld the dew, and the earth has withheld its produce. 11 And (BN)I have called for a drought on the land and the hills, on (BO)the grain, the new wine, the oil, on what the ground brings forth, on man and beast, and (BP)on all their labors.”
The People Obey the Lord
12 (BQ)Then (BR)Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and (BS)Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, with all (BT)the remnant of the people, obeyed the voice of the Lord their God, and the words of Haggai the prophet, as the Lord their God had sent him. And the people feared the Lord. 13 Then Haggai, the messenger of the Lord, spoke to the people with the Lord's message, (BU)“I am with you, declares the Lord.” 14 And (BV)the Lord stirred up the spirit of (BW)Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and the spirit of (BX)Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and the spirit of all (BY)the remnant of the people. And they came and (BZ)worked on the house of the Lord of hosts, their God, 15 (CA)on the twenty-fourth day of the month, in the sixth month, in the second year of Darius the king.
The Coming Glory of the Temple
2 (CB)In the seventh month, on the twenty-first day of the month, the word of the Lord came by the hand of Haggai the prophet: 2 “Speak now to (CC)Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to (CD)Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and to all the remnant of the people, and say, 3 (CE)‘Who is left among you who saw this house (CF)in its former glory? How do you see it now? (CG)Is it not as nothing in your eyes? 4 Yet now (CH)be strong, O (CI)Zerubbabel, declares the Lord. (CJ)Be strong, O (CK)Joshua, son of Jehozadak, the high priest. (CL)Be strong, all you people of the land, declares the Lord. (CM)Work, for (CN)I am with you, declares the Lord of hosts, 5 (CO)according to the covenant that I made with you when you came out of Egypt. (CP)My Spirit remains in your midst. (CQ)Fear not. 6 For thus says the Lord of hosts: (CR)Yet once more, in a little while, (CS)I will shake the heavens and the earth and the sea and the dry land. 7 And I will shake all nations, so that the treasures of all nations shall come in, and (CT)I will fill this house with glory, says the Lord of hosts. 8 (CU)The silver is mine, and the gold is mine, declares the Lord of hosts. 9 (CV)The latter glory of this house shall be greater than the former, says the Lord of hosts. And (CW)in this place I will give peace, declares the Lord of hosts.’”
Blessings for a Defiled People
10 (CX)On the twenty-fourth day of the ninth month, (CY)in the second year of Darius, the word of the Lord came by Haggai the prophet, 11 “Thus says the Lord of hosts: (CZ)Ask the priests about the law: 12 ‘If someone carries (DA)holy meat in the fold of his garment and touches with his fold bread or stew or wine or oil or any kind of food, does it become holy?’” The priests answered and said, (DB)“No.” 13 Then Haggai said, (DC)“If someone who is unclean by contact with a dead body (DD)touches any of these, does it become unclean?” The priests answered and said, “It does become unclean.” 14 Then Haggai answered and said, (DE)“So is it with this people, and with this nation before me, declares the Lord, and so with every work of their hands. And what they offer there is unclean. 15 Now then, (DF)consider from this day onward.[d] Before stone was placed upon stone in the temple of the Lord, 16 how did you fare? (DG)When[e] one came to a heap of twenty measures, there were but ten. When one came to the wine vat to draw fifty measures, there were but twenty. 17 (DH)I struck you and all the products of your toil with blight and with mildew and with hail, (DI)yet you did not turn to me, declares the Lord. 18 (DJ)Consider from this day onward, (DK)from the twenty-fourth day of the ninth month. Since (DL)the day that the foundation of the Lord's temple was laid, (DM)consider: 19 (DN)Is the seed yet in the barn? Indeed, the vine, the fig tree, the pomegranate, and the olive tree have yielded nothing. But from this day on (DO)I will bless you.”
Zerubbabel Chosen as a Signet
20 The word of the Lord came a second time to Haggai (DP)on the twenty-fourth day of the month, 21 “Speak to (DQ)Zerubbabel, governor of Judah, saying, (DR)I am about to shake the heavens and the earth, 22 and (DS)to overthrow the throne of kingdoms. I am about to destroy the strength of the kingdoms of the nations, and (DT)overthrow the chariots and their riders. And the horses and their riders shall go down, (DU)every one by the sword of his brother. 23 On that day, declares the Lord of hosts, I will take you, O (DV)Zerubbabel (DW)my servant, the son of (DX)Shealtiel, declares the Lord, and make you (DY)like a[f] signet ring, (DZ)for I have chosen you, declares the Lord of hosts.”
A Call to Return to the Lord
1 In the eighth month, (EA)in the second year of Darius, the word of the Lord came to the prophet (EB)Zechariah, the son of (EC)Berechiah, son of (ED)Iddo, saying, 2 (EE)“The Lord was very angry with your fathers. 3 Therefore say to them, Thus declares the Lord of hosts: (EF)Return to me, says the Lord of hosts, and (EG)I will return to you, says the Lord of hosts. 4 (EH)Do not be like your fathers, (EI)to whom the former prophets cried out, ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts, (EJ)Return from your evil ways and from your evil deeds.’ But (EK)they did not hear or pay attention to me, declares the Lord. 5 Your fathers, where are they? And (EL)the prophets, do they live forever? 6 (EM)But my words and my statutes, which I commanded (EN)my servants the prophets, did they not (EO)overtake your fathers? So they repented and said, (EP)‘As the Lord of hosts purposed to deal with us for (EQ)our ways and (ER)deeds, so has he dealt with us.’”
A Vision of a Horseman
7 On the twenty-fourth day of the eleventh month, which is the month of Shebat, in the second year of Darius, the word of the Lord came to the prophet (ES)Zechariah, the son of (ET)Berechiah, son of (EU)Iddo, saying, 8 “I saw in the night, and behold, (EV)a man riding on a red horse! He was standing among the myrtle trees in the glen, and behind him were (EW)red, sorrel, and white horses. 9 Then I said, ‘What are these, my lord?’ (EX)The angel who talked with me said to me, ‘I will show you what they are.’ 10 So (EY)the man who was standing among the myrtle trees answered, (EZ)‘These are they whom the Lord has sent to (FA)patrol the earth.’ 11 And they answered (FB)the angel of the Lord who was standing among the myrtle trees, and said, (FC)‘We have patrolled the earth, and behold, all the earth (FD)remains at rest.’ 12 Then (FE)the angel of the Lord said, (FF)‘O Lord of hosts, (FG)how long will you (FH)have no mercy on Jerusalem and the cities of Judah, against which you have been angry these (FI)seventy years?’ 13 And the Lord answered (FJ)gracious and comforting words to (FK)the angel who talked with me. 14 So (FL)the angel who talked with me said to me, ‘Cry out, Thus says the Lord of hosts: (FM)I am exceedingly jealous for Jerusalem and for Zion. 15 (FN)And I am exceedingly angry with the nations that are (FO)at ease; (FP)for while I was angry but a little, (FQ)they furthered the disaster. 16 Therefore, thus says the Lord, (FR)I have returned to Jerusalem with mercy; (FS)my house shall be built in it, declares the Lord of hosts, and (FT)the measuring line shall be stretched out over Jerusalem. 17 Cry out again, Thus says the Lord of hosts: (FU)My cities shall again overflow with prosperity, (FV)and the Lord will again comfort Zion and again (FW)choose Jerusalem.’”
A Vision of Horns and Craftsmen
18 [g] And I lifted my eyes and saw, and behold, (FX)four horns! 19 And I said to (FY)the angel who talked with me, “What are these?” And he said to me, (FZ)“These are the horns that have scattered Judah, Israel, and Jerusalem.” 20 Then the Lord showed me four craftsmen. 21 And I said, “What are these coming to do?” He said, (GA)“These are the horns that scattered Judah, so that no one raised his head. And these have come (GB)to terrify them, to cast down the horns of the nations (GC)who lifted up their horns against the land of Judah to scatter it.”

Jerusalem
3 Woe to the city of oppressors,(A)
rebellious(B) and defiled!(C)
2 She obeys(D) no one,
she accepts no correction.(E)
She does not trust(F) in the Lord,
she does not draw near(G) to her God.
3 Her officials within her
are roaring lions;(H)
her rulers are evening wolves,(I)
who leave nothing for the morning.(J)
4 Her prophets are unprincipled;
they are treacherous people.(K)
Her priests profane the sanctuary
and do violence to the law.(L)
5 The Lord within her is righteous;(M)
he does no wrong.(N)
Morning by morning(O) he dispenses his justice,
and every new day he does not fail,(P)
yet the unrighteous know no shame.(Q)
Jerusalem Remains Unrepentant
6 “I have destroyed nations;
their strongholds are demolished.
I have left their streets deserted,
with no one passing through.
Their cities are laid waste;(R)
they are deserted and empty.
7 Of Jerusalem I thought,
‘Surely you will fear me
and accept correction!’(S)
Then her place of refuge[a] would not be destroyed,
nor all my punishments come upon[b] her.
But they were still eager
to act corruptly(T) in all they did.
8 Therefore wait(U) for me,”
declares the Lord,
“for the day I will stand up to testify.[c]
I have decided to assemble(V) the nations,(W)
to gather the kingdoms
and to pour out my wrath(X) on them—
all my fierce anger.(Y)
The whole world will be consumed(Z)
by the fire of my jealous anger.
Restoration of Israel’s Remnant
9 “Then I will purify the lips of the peoples,
that all of them may call(AA) on the name of the Lord(AB)
and serve(AC) him shoulder to shoulder.
10 From beyond the rivers of Cush[d](AD)
my worshipers, my scattered people,
will bring me offerings.(AE)
11 On that day you, Jerusalem, will not be put to shame(AF)
for all the wrongs you have done to me,(AG)
because I will remove from you
your arrogant boasters.(AH)
Never again will you be haughty
on my holy hill.(AI)
12 But I will leave within you
the meek(AJ) and humble.
The remnant of Israel
will trust(AK) in the name of the Lord.
13 They(AL) will do no wrong;(AM)
they will tell no lies.(AN)
A deceitful tongue
will not be found in their mouths.(AO)
They will eat and lie down(AP)
and no one will make them afraid.(AQ)”
14 Sing, Daughter Zion;(AR)
shout aloud,(AS) Israel!
Be glad and rejoice(AT) with all your heart,
Daughter Jerusalem!
15 The Lord has taken away your punishment,
he has turned back your enemy.
The Lord, the King of Israel, is with you;(AU)
never again will you fear(AV) any harm.(AW)
16 On that day
they will say to Jerusalem,
“Do not fear, Zion;
do not let your hands hang limp.(AX)
17 The Lord your God is with you,
the Mighty Warrior who saves.(AY)
He will take great delight(AZ) in you;
in his love he will no longer rebuke you,(BA)
but will rejoice over you with singing.”(BB)
18 “I will remove from you
all who mourn over the loss of your appointed festivals,
which is a burden and reproach for you.
19 At that time I will deal
with all who oppressed(BC) you.
I will rescue the lame;
I will gather the exiles.(BD)
I will give them praise(BE) and honor
in every land where they have suffered shame.
20 At that time I will gather you;
at that time I will bring(BF) you home.
I will give you honor(BG) and praise(BH)
among all the peoples of the earth
when I restore your fortunes[e](BI)
before your very eyes,”
says the Lord.
A Call to Build the House of the Lord
1 In the second year of King Darius,(BJ) on the first day of the sixth month, the word of the Lord came through the prophet Haggai(BK) to Zerubbabel(BL) son of Shealtiel, governor(BM) of Judah, and to Joshua(BN) son of Jozadak,[f](BO) the high priest:(BP)
2 This is what the Lord Almighty(BQ) says: “These people(BR) say, ‘The time has not yet come to rebuild the Lord’s house.(BS)’”
3 Then the word of the Lord came through the prophet Haggai:(BT) 4 “Is it a time for you yourselves to be living in your paneled houses,(BU) while this house remains a ruin?(BV)”
5 Now this is what the Lord Almighty says: “Give careful thought(BW) to your ways. 6 You have planted much, but harvested little.(BX) You eat, but never have enough.(BY) You drink, but never have your fill.(BZ) You put on clothes, but are not warm. You earn wages,(CA) only to put them in a purse with holes in it.”
7 This is what the Lord Almighty says: “Give careful thought(CB) to your ways. 8 Go up into the mountains and bring down timber(CC) and build my house, so that I may take pleasure(CD) in it and be honored,(CE)” says the Lord. 9 “You expected much, but see, it turned out to be little.(CF) What you brought home, I blew(CG) away. Why?” declares the Lord Almighty. “Because of my house, which remains a ruin,(CH) while each of you is busy with your own house. 10 Therefore, because of you the heavens have withheld(CI) their dew(CJ) and the earth its crops.(CK) 11 I called for a drought(CL) on the fields and the mountains,(CM) on the grain, the new wine,(CN) the olive oil(CO) and everything else the ground produces, on people and livestock, and on all the labor of your hands.(CP)”
12 Then Zerubbabel(CQ) son of Shealtiel, Joshua son of Jozadak, the high priest, and the whole remnant(CR) of the people obeyed(CS) the voice of the Lord their God and the message of the prophet Haggai, because the Lord their God had sent him. And the people feared(CT) the Lord.
13 Then Haggai,(CU) the Lord’s messenger,(CV) gave this message of the Lord to the people: “I am with(CW) you,” declares the Lord. 14 So the Lord stirred up(CX) the spirit of Zerubbabel(CY) son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and the spirit of Joshua son of Jozadak,(CZ) the high priest, and the spirit of the whole remnant(DA) of the people. They came and began to work on the house of the Lord Almighty, their God, 15 on the twenty-fourth day of the sixth month.(DB)
The Promised Glory of the New House
In the second year of King Darius,(DC) 2 1 on the twenty-first day of the seventh month,(DD) the word of the Lord came through the prophet Haggai:(DE) 2 “Speak to Zerubbabel(DF) son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, to Joshua son of Jozadak,[g](DG) the high priest, and to the remnant(DH) of the people. Ask them, 3 ‘Who of you is left who saw this house(DI) in its former glory? How does it look to you now? Does it not seem to you like nothing?(DJ) 4 But now be strong, Zerubbabel,’ declares the Lord. ‘Be strong,(DK) Joshua son of Jozadak,(DL) the high priest. Be strong, all you people of the land,’ declares the Lord, ‘and work. For I am with(DM) you,’ declares the Lord Almighty. 5 ‘This is what I covenanted(DN) with you when you came out of Egypt.(DO) And my Spirit(DP) remains among you. Do not fear.’(DQ)
6 “This is what the Lord Almighty says: ‘In a little while(DR) I will once more shake the heavens and the earth,(DS) the sea and the dry land. 7 I will shake all nations, and what is desired(DT) by all nations will come, and I will fill this house(DU) with glory,(DV)’ says the Lord Almighty. 8 ‘The silver is mine and the gold(DW) is mine,’ declares the Lord Almighty. 9 ‘The glory(DX) of this present house(DY) will be greater than the glory of the former house,’ says the Lord Almighty. ‘And in this place I will grant peace,(DZ)’ declares the Lord Almighty.”
Blessings for a Defiled People
10 On the twenty-fourth day of the ninth month,(EA) in the second year of Darius, the word of the Lord came to the prophet Haggai: 11 “This is what the Lord Almighty says: ‘Ask the priests(EB) what the law says: 12 If someone carries consecrated meat(EC) in the fold of their garment, and that fold touches some bread or stew, some wine, olive oil or other food, does it become consecrated?(ED)’”
The priests answered, “No.”
13 Then Haggai said, “If a person defiled by contact with a dead body touches one of these things, does it become defiled?”
“Yes,” the priests replied, “it becomes defiled.(EE)”
14 Then Haggai said, “‘So it is with this people(EF) and this nation in my sight,’ declares the Lord. ‘Whatever they do and whatever they offer(EG) there is defiled.
15 “‘Now give careful thought(EH) to this from this day on[h]—consider how things were before one stone was laid(EI) on another in the Lord’s temple.(EJ) 16 When anyone came to a heap(EK) of twenty measures, there were only ten. When anyone went to a wine vat(EL) to draw fifty measures, there were only twenty.(EM) 17 I struck all the work of your hands(EN) with blight,(EO) mildew and hail,(EP) yet you did not return(EQ) to me,’ declares the Lord.(ER) 18 ‘From this day on, from this twenty-fourth day of the ninth month, give careful thought(ES) to the day when the foundation(ET) of the Lord’s temple was laid. Give careful thought: 19 Is there yet any seed left in the barn? Until now, the vine and the fig tree, the pomegranate(EU) and the olive tree have not borne fruit.(EV)
“‘From this day on I will bless(EW) you.’”
Zerubbabel the Lord’s Signet Ring
20 The word of the Lord came to Haggai(EX) a second time on the twenty-fourth day of the month:(EY) 21 “Tell Zerubbabel(EZ) governor of Judah that I am going to shake(FA) the heavens and the earth. 22 I will overturn(FB) royal thrones and shatter the power of the foreign kingdoms.(FC) I will overthrow chariots(FD) and their drivers; horses and their riders(FE) will fall, each by the sword of his brother.(FF)
23 “‘On that day,(FG)’ declares the Lord Almighty, ‘I will take you, my servant(FH) Zerubbabel(FI) son of Shealtiel,’ declares the Lord, ‘and I will make you like my signet ring,(FJ) for I have chosen you,’ declares the Lord Almighty.”
A Call to Return to the Lord
1 In the eighth month of the second year of Darius,(FK) the word of the Lord came to the prophet Zechariah(FL) son of Berekiah,(FM) the son of Iddo:(FN)
2 “The Lord was very angry(FO) with your ancestors. 3 Therefore tell the people: This is what the Lord Almighty says: ‘Return(FP) to me,’ declares the Lord Almighty, ‘and I will return to you,’(FQ) says the Lord Almighty. 4 Do not be like your ancestors,(FR) to whom the earlier prophets(FS) proclaimed: This is what the Lord Almighty says: ‘Turn from your evil ways(FT) and your evil practices.’ But they would not listen or pay attention to me,(FU) declares the Lord.(FV) 5 Where are your ancestors now? And the prophets, do they live forever? 6 But did not my words(FW) and my decrees, which I commanded my servants the prophets, overtake your ancestors?(FX)
“Then they repented and said, ‘The Lord Almighty has done to us what our ways and practices deserve,(FY) just as he determined to do.’”(FZ)
The Man Among the Myrtle Trees
7 On the twenty-fourth day of the eleventh month, the month of Shebat, in the second year of Darius, the word of the Lord came to the prophet Zechariah son of Berekiah, the son of Iddo.(GA)
8 During the night I had a vision, and there before me was a man mounted on a red(GB) horse. He was standing among the myrtle trees in a ravine. Behind him were red, brown and white horses.(GC)
9 I asked, “What are these, my lord?”
The angel(GD) who was talking with me answered, “I will show you what they are.”(GE)
10 Then the man standing among the myrtle trees explained, “They are the ones the Lord has sent to go throughout the earth.”(GF)
11 And they reported to the angel of the Lord(GG) who was standing among the myrtle trees, “We have gone throughout the earth and found the whole world at rest and in peace.”(GH)
12 Then the angel of the Lord said, “Lord Almighty, how long(GI) will you withhold mercy(GJ) from Jerusalem and from the towns of Judah,(GK) which you have been angry with these seventy(GL) years?” 13 So the Lord spoke(GM) kind and comforting words(GN) to the angel who talked with me.(GO)
14 Then the angel who was speaking to me said, “Proclaim this word: This is what the Lord Almighty says: ‘I am very jealous(GP) for Jerusalem and Zion, 15 and I am very angry with the nations that feel secure.(GQ) I was only a little angry,(GR) but they went too far with the punishment.’(GS)
16 “Therefore this is what the Lord says: ‘I will return(GT) to Jerusalem with mercy, and there my house will be rebuilt. And the measuring line(GU) will be stretched out over Jerusalem,’ declares the Lord Almighty.(GV)
17 “Proclaim further: This is what the Lord Almighty says: ‘My towns will again overflow with prosperity, and the Lord will again comfort(GW) Zion and choose(GX) Jerusalem.’”(GY)
Four Horns and Four Craftsmen
18 Then I looked up, and there before me were four horns. 19 I asked the angel who was speaking to me, “What are these?”
He answered me, “These are the horns(GZ) that scattered Judah, Israel and Jerusalem.”
20 Then the Lord showed me four craftsmen. 21 I asked, “What are these coming to do?”
He answered, “These are the horns that scattered Judah so that no one could raise their head, but the craftsmen have come to terrify them and throw down these horns of the nations who lifted up their horns(HA) against the land of Judah to scatter its people.”[i](HB)

19 After this I heard (A)what seemed to be the loud voice of a great multitude in heaven, crying out,
“Hallelujah!
(B)Salvation and glory and power belong to our God,
2 for (C)his judgments are true and just;
for he has judged (D)the great prostitute
who corrupted the earth with her immorality,
and (E)has avenged on her the blood of his servants.”
3 Once more they cried out,
“Hallelujah!
(F)The smoke from her goes up forever and ever.”
4 And (G)the twenty-four elders and the four living creatures fell down and worshiped God who was seated on the throne, saying, “Amen. Hallelujah!” 5 And from the throne came a voice saying,
The Marriage Supper of the Lamb
6 Then I heard what seemed to be (J)the voice of a great multitude, like (K)the roar of many waters and (L)like the sound of mighty peals of thunder, crying out,
“Hallelujah!
For the Lord our God
the Almighty (M)reigns.
7 Let us rejoice and exult
and give him the glory,
for (N)the marriage of the Lamb has come,
and (O)his Bride has made herself ready;
8 (P)it was granted her to clothe herself
with fine linen, bright and pure”—
for the fine linen is (Q)the righteous deeds of the saints.
9 And the angel said[a] to me, “Write this: (R)Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb.” And he said to me, (S)“These are the true words of God.” 10 Then (T)I fell down at his feet to worship him, (U)but he said to me, “You must not do that! I am a fellow servant with you and your brothers who hold to (V)the testimony of Jesus. Worship God.” For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.
The Rider on a White Horse
11 Then I saw (W)heaven opened, and behold, (X)a white horse! The one sitting on it is called (Y)Faithful and True, and (Z)in righteousness he judges and makes war. 12 (AA)His eyes are like a flame of fire, and on his head are (AB)many diadems, and he has (AC)a name written that no one knows but himself. 13 He is clothed in (AD)a robe dipped in[b] blood, and the name by which he is called is (AE)The Word of God. 14 And the armies of heaven, (AF)arrayed in fine linen, white and pure, (AG)were following him on white horses. 15 (AH)From his mouth comes a sharp sword (AI)with which to strike down the nations, and (AJ)he will rule[c] them with a rod of iron. (AK)He will tread the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God the Almighty. 16 On his robe and on his thigh (AL)he has a name written, (AM)King of kings and Lord of lords.
17 Then I saw an angel standing in the sun, and with a loud voice he called to (AN)all the birds that fly directly overhead, (AO)“Come, gather for (AP)the great supper of God, 18 (AQ)to eat the flesh of kings, the flesh of captains, the flesh of mighty men, the flesh of horses and their riders, and the flesh of all men, both free and slave,[d] both small and great.” 19 And I saw (AR)the beast and the kings of the earth with their armies (AS)gathered to make war against him who was sitting on the horse and against his army. 20 And the beast was captured, and with it (AT)the false prophet (AU)who in its presence[e] had done the signs by which he deceived those who had received the mark of the beast and those who (AV)worshiped its image. These two were (AW)thrown alive into the lake of (AX)fire that burns with sulfur. 21 And the rest were slain by the sword (AY)that came from the mouth of him who was sitting on the horse, and (AZ)all the birds were gorged with their flesh.

Threefold Hallelujah Over Babylon’s Fall
19 After this I heard what sounded like the roar of a great multitude(A) in heaven shouting:
“Hallelujah!(B)
Salvation(C) and glory and power(D) belong to our God,
2 for true and just are his judgments.(E)
He has condemned the great prostitute(F)
who corrupted the earth by her adulteries.
He has avenged on her the blood of his servants.”(G)
3 And again they shouted:
4 The twenty-four elders(J) and the four living creatures(K) fell down(L) and worshiped God, who was seated on the throne. And they cried:

The Heavenly Warrior Defeats the Beast
11 I saw heaven standing open(AG) and there before me was a white horse, whose rider(AH) is called Faithful and True.(AI) With justice he judges and wages war.(AJ) 12 His eyes are like blazing fire,(AK) and on his head are many crowns.(AL) He has a name written on him(AM) that no one knows but he himself.(AN) 13 He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood,(AO) and his name is the Word of God.(AP) 14 The armies of heaven were following him, riding on white horses and dressed in fine linen,(AQ) white(AR) and clean. 15 Coming out of his mouth is a sharp sword(AS) with which to strike down(AT) the nations. “He will rule them with an iron scepter.”[a](AU) He treads the winepress(AV) of the fury of the wrath of God Almighty. 16 On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written:(AW)
king of kings and lord of lords.(AX)
17 And I saw an angel standing in the sun, who cried in a loud voice to all the birds(AY) flying in midair,(AZ) “Come,(BA) gather together for the great supper of God,(BB) 18 so that you may eat the flesh of kings, generals, and the mighty, of horses and their riders, and the flesh of all people,(BC) free and slave,(BD) great and small.”(BE)
19 Then I saw the beast(BF) and the kings of the earth(BG) and their armies gathered together to wage war against the rider on the horse(BH) and his army. 20 But the beast was captured, and with it the false prophet(BI) who had performed the signs(BJ) on its behalf.(BK) With these signs he had deluded(BL) those who had received the mark of the beast(BM) and worshiped its image.(BN) The two of them were thrown alive into the fiery lake(BO) of burning sulfur.(BP) 21 The rest were killed with the sword(BQ) coming out of the mouth of the rider on the horse,(BR) and all the birds(BS) gorged themselves on their flesh.
