9 The enemy boasted,
    ‘I will pursue,^(X) I will overtake them.
I will divide the spoils;^(Y)
    I will gorge myself on them.
I will draw my sword
    and my hand will destroy them.’

    and the sea covered them.

    the people you have redeemed.^(AI)
In your strength you will guide them
    to your holy dwelling.^(AJ)

    anguish^(AL) will grip the people of Philistia.^(AM)
15 The chiefs^(AN) of Edom^(AO) will be terrified,
    the leaders of Moab will be seized with trembling,^(AP)
the people^[c] of Canaan will melt^(AQ) away;
¹⁶     terror^(AR) and dread will fall on them.
By the power of your arm
    they will be as still as a stone^(AS)—
until your people pass by, Lord,
    until the people you bought^[d](AT) pass by.^(AU)
17 You will bring^(AV) them in and plant^(AW) them
    on the mountain^(AX) of your inheritance—
the place, Lord, you made for your dwelling,^(AY)
    the sanctuary,^(AZ) Lord, your hands established.

    when you marched from the land of Edom,

5 The mountains quaked^(BG) before the Lord, the One of Sinai,
    before the Lord, the God of Israel.

⁶ “In the days of Shamgar son of Anath,^(BH)
    in the days of Jael,^(BI) the highways^(BJ) were abandoned;
    travelers took to winding paths.^(BK)
7 Villagers in Israel would not fight;
    they held back until I, Deborah,^(BL) arose,
    until I arose, a mother in Israel.
⁸ God chose new leaders^(BM)
    when war came to the city gates,^(BN)
but not a shield or spear^(BO) was seen
    among forty thousand in Israel.
⁹ My heart is with Israel’s princes,
    with the willing volunteers^(BP) among the people.

    yes, Issachar was with Barak,^(CD)
    sent under his command into the valley.
In the districts of Reuben
    there was much searching of heart.
¹⁶ Why did you stay among the sheep pens^[f](CE)
    to hear the whistling for the flocks?^(CF)

    And Dan, why did he linger by the ships?
Asher^(CH) remained on the coast^(CI)
    and stayed in his coves.

    so did Naphtali^(CK) on the terraced fields.^(CL)

    the kings of Canaan fought.
At Taanach, by the waters of Megiddo,^(CN)
    they took no plunder of silver.^(CO)
20 From the heavens^(CP) the stars fought,
    from their courses they fought against Sisera.
²¹ The river Kishon^(CQ) swept them away,
    the age-old river, the river Kishon.
    March on, my soul; be strong!^(CR)
22 Then thundered the horses’ hooves—
    galloping, galloping go his mighty steeds.^(CS)
23 ‘Curse Meroz,’ said the angel of the Lord.
    ‘Curse its people bitterly,
because they did not come to help the Lord,
    to help the Lord against the mighty.’

    most blessed of tent-dwelling women.

³¹ “So may all your enemies perish,^(DE) Lord!
    But may all who love you be like the sun^(DF)
    when it rises in its strength.”^(DG)

“My heart rejoices^(B) in the Lord;
    in the Lord my horn^[a](C) is lifted high.
My mouth boasts^(D) over my enemies,^(E)
    for I delight in your deliverance.

² “There is no one holy^(F) like^(G) the Lord;
    there is no one besides you;
    there is no Rock^(H) like our God.

³ “Do not keep talking so proudly
    or let your mouth speak such arrogance,^(I)
for the Lord is a God who knows,^(J)
    and by him deeds^(K) are weighed.^(L)

⁴ “The bows of the warriors are broken,^(M)
    but those who stumbled are armed with strength.^(N)
5 Those who were full hire themselves out for food,
    but those who were hungry^(O) are hungry no more.
She who was barren^(P) has borne seven children,
    but she who has had many sons pines away.

⁶ “The Lord brings death and makes alive;^(Q)
    he brings down to the grave and raises up.^(R)
7 The Lord sends poverty and wealth;^(S)
    he humbles and he exalts.^(T)
8 He raises^(U) the poor^(V) from the dust^(W)
    and lifts the needy^(X) from the ash heap;
he seats them with princes
    and has them inherit a throne of honor.^(Y)

“For the foundations^(Z) of the earth are the Lord’s;
    on them he has set the world.
⁹ He will guard the feet^(AA) of his faithful servants,^(AB)
    but the wicked will be silenced in the place of darkness.^(AC)

“It is not by strength^(AD) that one prevails;
¹⁰     those who oppose the Lord will be broken.^(AE)
The Most High will thunder^(AF) from heaven;
    the Lord will judge^(AG) the ends of the earth.

“He will give strength^(AH) to his king
    and exalt the horn^(AI) of his anointed.”

² Listen, my son! Listen, son of my womb!
    Listen, my son, the answer to my prayers!^(B)
3 Do not spend your strength^[a] on women,
    your vigor on those who ruin kings.^(C)

⁴ It is not for kings, Lemuel—
    it is not for kings to drink wine,^(D)
    not for rulers to crave beer,
⁵ lest they drink^(E) and forget what has been decreed,^(F)
    and deprive all the oppressed of their rights.
⁶ Let beer be for those who are perishing,
    wine^(G) for those who are in anguish!
⁷ Let them drink^(H) and forget their poverty
    and remember their misery no more.

⁸ Speak^(I) up for those who cannot speak for themselves,
    for the rights of all who are destitute.
⁹ Speak up and judge fairly;
    defend the rights of the poor and needy.^(J)

“My soul glorifies the Lord^(B)
47     and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,^(C)
48 for he has been mindful
    of the humble state of his servant.^(D)
From now on all generations will call me blessed,^(E)
49     for the Mighty One has done great things^(F) for me—
    holy is his name.^(G)
50 His mercy extends to those who fear him,

52 He has brought down rulers from their thrones

    just as he promised our ancestors.”
