Jesus Foretells His Death a Third Time

³¹^(A)And taking the twelve, he said to them, “See, ^(B)we are going up to Jerusalem, and ^(C)everything that is written about the Son of Man by the prophets will be accomplished. ³²For he will be ^(D)delivered over to the Gentiles and will be ^(E)mocked and shamefully treated and ^(F)spit upon. ³³And after flogging him, they will kill him, and on ^(G)the third day he will rise.” ³⁴^(H)But they understood none of these things. ^(I)This saying was hidden from them, and they did not grasp what was said.

Jesus Heals a Blind Beggar

³⁵^(J)As he drew near to Jericho, ^(K)a blind man was sitting by the roadside begging. ³⁶And hearing a crowd going by, he inquired what this meant. ³⁷They told him, ^(L)“Jesus of Nazareth is passing by.” ³⁸And he cried out, “Jesus, ^(M)Son of David, have mercy on me!” ³⁹And those who were in front ^(N)rebuked him, telling him to be silent. But he cried out all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!” ⁴⁰And Jesus stopped and commanded him to be brought to him. And when he came near, he asked him, ⁴¹^(O)“What do you want me to do for you?” He said, “Lord, let me recover my sight.” ⁴²And Jesus said to him, “Recover your sight; ^(P)your faith has ^(Q)made you well.” ⁴³And immediately he recovered his sight and followed him, ^(R)glorifying God. And ^(S)all the people, when they saw it, gave praise to God.

Proverbs 14:1-18

14 ^(A)The wisest of women ^(B)builds her house,
    but folly with her own hands ^(C)tears it down.
²Whoever ^(D)walks in uprightness fears the Lord,
    but he who is ^(E)devious in his ways despises him.
³By the mouth of a fool comes ^(F)a rod for his back,^[a]
    ^(G)but the lips of the wise will preserve them.
⁴Where there are no oxen, the manger is clean,
    but abundant crops come by the strength of the ox.
⁵^(H)A faithful witness does not lie,
    but ^(I)a false witness breathes out lies.
⁶^(J)A scoffer seeks wisdom ^(K)in vain,
    but ^(L)knowledge is easy for a man of understanding.
⁷Leave the presence of a fool,
    for there you do not meet words of knowledge.
⁸The wisdom of the prudent is to discern his way,
    but the folly of fools is deceiving.
⁹^(M)Fools mock at the guilt offering,
    but the upright enjoy acceptance.^[b]
¹⁰The heart knows its own ^(N)bitterness,
    and no stranger shares its joy.
¹¹^(O)The house of the wicked will be destroyed,
    but the tent of the upright will flourish.
¹²^(P)There is a way that seems right to a man,
    but ^(Q)its end is the way to death.^[c]
¹³Even in laughter the heart may ache,
    and ^(R)the end of joy may be ^(S)grief.
¹⁴The backslider in heart will be ^(T)filled with the fruit of his ways,
    and ^(U)a good man will be filled with the fruit of his ways.
¹⁵^(V)The simple believes everything,
    but the prudent gives thought to his steps.
¹⁶^(W)One who is wise is cautious^[d] and ^(X)turns away from evil,
    but a fool is reckless and careless.
¹⁷A man of ^(Y)quick temper acts foolishly,
    and a man of evil devices is hated.
¹⁸The simple inherit folly,
    but the prudent are crowned with knowledge.
