The Creation of the World

1 In the ^(A)beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. ² The earth was ^(B)without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.

³ And God said, ^(C)“Let there be light,” and there was light. ⁴ And God saw that the light was good. And God separated the light from the darkness. ⁵ God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, the first day.

Walking in the Light

^5 (A)This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that ^(B)God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. ^6 (C)If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and ^(D)do not practice the truth. ⁷ But ^(E)if we walk in the light, ^(F)as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and ^(G)the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.

^14 (A)“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. ^15 (B)Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. ¹⁶ In the same way, let your light shine before others, so ^(C)that^[a] they may see your good works and ^(D)give glory to your Father who is in heaven.
