The Day of Pentecost

When (A)the day of Pentecost [a]had come, they were all together in one place. And suddenly a noise like a violent rushing wind came from heaven, and it filled (B)the whole house where they were sitting. And tongues that looked like fire appeared to them, [b]distributing themselves, and a tongue [c]rested on each one of them. And they were all (C)filled with the Holy Spirit and began to (D)speak with different [d]tongues, as the Spirit was giving them the ability to speak out.

Now there were Jews residing in Jerusalem, (E)devout men from every nation under heaven. And when (F)this sound occurred, the crowd came together and they were bewildered, because each one of them was hearing them speak in his own [e]language. (G)They were amazed and astonished, saying, “[f]Why, are not all these who are speaking (H)Galileans? And how is it that we each hear them in our own [g]language [h]to which we were born? Parthians, Medes, and Elamites, and residents of Mesopotamia, Judea, and (I)Cappadocia, (J)Pontus and [i](K)Asia, 10 (L)Phrygia and (M)Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya around (N)Cyrene, and [j](O)visitors from Rome, both Jews and [k](P)proselytes, 11 Cretans and Arabs—we hear them speaking in our own [l]tongues of the mighty deeds of God.” 12 And (Q)they all continued in amazement and great perplexity, saying to one another, “What does this mean?” 13 But others were jeering and saying, “(R)They are full of [m]sweet wine!”

Peter’s Sermon

14 But Peter, taking his stand with (S)the other eleven, raised his voice and declared to them: “Men of Judea and all you who live in Jerusalem, [n]know this, and pay attention to my words. 15 For these people are not drunk, as you assume, (T)since it is only the [o]third hour of the day; 16 but this is what has been spoken through the prophet Joel:

17 (U)And it shall be in the last days,’ God says,
That I will pour out My Spirit on all [p]mankind;
And your sons and your daughters will prophesy,
And your young men will see visions,
And your old men will [q]have dreams;
18 And even on My male and female [r]servants
I will pour out My Spirit in those days,
And they will prophesy.
19 And I will [s]display wonders in the sky above
And signs on the earth below,
Blood, fire, and [t]vapor of smoke.
20 The sun will be turned into darkness
And the moon into blood,
Before the great and glorious day of the Lord comes.
21 And it shall be that (V)everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’

Ezekiel 37:1-14

Vision of the Valley of Dry Bones

37 The (A)hand of the Lord was upon me, and He (B)brought me out [a]by the Spirit of the Lord and set me down in the middle of the (C)valley; and it was full of bones. He had me pass among them all around, and behold, there were very many on the surface of the valley; and behold, they were very dry. Then He said to me, “Son of man, (D)can these bones live?” And I answered, “Lord [b]God, (E)You Yourself know.” Again He said to me, “(F)Prophesy over these bones and say to them, ‘You dry bones, (G)hear the word of the Lord.’ This is what the Lord God says to these bones: ‘Behold, I am going to make [c](H)breath enter you so that you may come to life. And I will [d]attach tendons to you, make flesh grow back on you, cover you with skin, and put breath in you so that you may come to life; and you will (I)know that I am the Lord.’”

So I prophesied (J)as I was commanded; and as I prophesied, there was a loud noise, and behold, a [e]rattling; and the bones came together, bone to its bone. And I looked, and behold, tendons were on them, and flesh grew and skin covered them; but there was no breath in them. Then He said to me, “Prophesy to the breath, prophesy, son of man, and say to the breath, ‘The Lord God says this: “Come from the four winds, breath, and (K)breathe on these slain, so that they (L)come to life.”’” 10 So I prophesied as He commanded me, and the (M)breath entered them, and they came to life and stood on their feet, an (N)exceedingly great army.

The Vision Explained

11 Then He said to me, “Son of man, these bones are the (O)entire house of Israel; behold, they say, ‘Our (P)bones are dried up and our hope has perished. We are [f]completely (Q)cut off.’ 12 Therefore prophesy and say to them, ‘This is what the Lord God says: “Behold, I am going to open your graves and (R)cause you to come up out of your graves, My people; and I will bring you into the land of Israel. 13 Then you will know that I am the Lord, when I have opened your graves and caused you to come up out of your graves, My people. 14 And I will (S)put My [g]Spirit within you and you will come to life, and I will place you on your own land. Then you will know that I, the Lord, have spoken and done it,” declares the Lord.’”

Psalm 104:24-34

24 Lord, how (A)many are Your works!
[a]In (B)wisdom You have made them all;
The (C)earth is full of Your [b]possessions.
25 [c]There is the (D)sea, great and [d]broad,
In which are swarms without number,
Animals both small and great.
26 The (E)ships move along there,
And [e](F)Leviathan, which You have formed to have fun in it.

27 They all (G)wait for You
To (H)give them their food in [f]due season.
28 You give to them, they gather it up;
You (I)open Your hand, they are satisfied with good.
29 You (J)hide Your face, they are terrified;
You (K)take away their breath, they perish
And (L)return to their dust.
30 You send forth Your [g](M)Spirit, they are created;
And You renew the face of the ground.

31 May the (N)glory of the Lord endure forever;
May the Lord (O)rejoice in His works;
32 [h]He (P)looks at the earth, and it (Q)trembles;
He (R)touches the mountains, and they smoke.
33 [i]I will sing to the Lord [j](S)as long as I live;
[k]I will (T)sing praise to my God [l]while I have my being.
34 May my (U)praise be pleasing to Him;
As for me, I shall (V)rejoice in the Lord.

Psalm 104:35

35 May sinners be (A)removed from the earth
And may the (B)wicked be no more.
(C)Bless the Lord, my soul.
[a](D)Praise [b]the Lord!

Romans 8:22-27

22 For we know that the whole creation (A)groans and suffers the pains of childbirth together until now. 23 (B)And not only that, but also we ourselves, having (C)the first fruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves (D)groan within ourselves, (E)waiting eagerly for our adoption as sons and daughters, (F)the redemption of our body. 24 For (G)in hope we have been saved, but (H)hope that is seen is not hope; for who hopes for what he already sees? 25 But (I)if we hope for what we do not see, through perseverance we wait eagerly for it.

Our Victory in Christ

26 Now in the same way the Spirit also helps our weakness; for (J)we do not know what to pray for as we should, but (K)the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with [a]groanings too deep for words; 27 and (L)He who searches the hearts knows what (M)the mind of the Spirit is, because He (N)intercedes for the [b]saints according to the will of God.

John 15:26-27

26 “When the [a](A)Helper comes, (B)whom I will send to you from the Father, namely, (C)the Spirit of truth who comes from the Father, (D)He will testify about Me, 27 and [b](E)you are testifying as well, because you have been with Me (F)from the beginning.

John 16:4-15

But these things I have spoken to you, (A)so that when their hour comes, you [a]may remember that I told you of them. However, I did not say these things to you (B)at the beginning, because I was with you.

The Holy Spirit Promised

“But now (C)I am going to Him who sent Me; and none of you asks Me, ‘(D)Where are You going?’ But because I have said these things to you, (E)grief has filled your heart. But I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I am leaving; for if I do not leave, the [b](F)Helper will not come to you; but if I go, (G)I will send Him to you. And He, when He comes, will convict the world regarding sin, and righteousness, and judgment: regarding sin, (H)because they do not believe in Me; 10 and regarding (I)righteousness, because (J)I am going to the Father and you no longer are going to see Me; 11 (K)and regarding judgment, because the ruler of this world has been judged.

12 “I have many more things to say to you, but you cannot bear them at the present time. 13 But when He, (L)the Spirit of truth, comes, He will (M)guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come. 14 He will (N)glorify Me, for He will take from Mine and will disclose it to you. 15 (O)All things that the Father has are Mine; this is why I said that He takes from Mine and will disclose it to you.
