AHASBAI ə hăz’ bī (אֲחַסְבַּ֖י, blooming). The father of Eliphelet, one of David’s mighty men (2 Sam 23:34). Described as “of Maacah,” he may have been from a Judean family of Maacah (1 Chron 2:48; 4:19), or from the city of Beth-maacah (2 Sam 20:14), or from the Aram. city of Maacah (2 Sam 10:8). In the parallel passage (1 Chron 11:35, 36), instead of the name Ahasbai of 2 Samuel 23:34, the reading is “Ur, Hepher”; the text is evidently corrupt in one or both places.
