Allon-Bacuth

ALLON-BACUTH ăl’ ən băk’ əth (אַלֹּ֥ון בָּכֽוּת, oak of weeping). The burial site of Deborah, Rebekah’s nurse “below Bethel” (Gen 35:8). Some modern scholars confuse the event and the person of Deborah with the later Deborah who “judged Israel under a palm tree between Ramah and Bethel.” The confusion is only in the mind of critics and not in the text itself. One may infer with Luther that the burial of this servant merits the attention of the writer because of the way she served and advised Jacob.
