Antimony

ANTIMONY (פּוּכְ, H7037, paint or shining stones). The RSV has tr. פּוּכְ, H7037, twice (1 Chron 29:2; Isa 54:11) as antimony, a hard, lead-like element (Sb). The Heb. word so tr. seems to refer to eye paint (2 Kings 9:30; Jer 4:30) and to a substance which glazes or binds precious or building stones (1 Chron 29:2; Isa 54:11). Isaiah 54:11 refers to a substance which appears to enhance the beauty of building stones, while in 1 Chronicles 29:2 it is mentioned among the precious stones which David had accumulated for the construction of the Temple.
